Where To Stay In Nova Scotia

Day : Wolfville To Halifax

10 Towns in Nova Scotia to Visit this Summer!

Grab breakfast: at the Blomidon Inn. If youre not stuffed from the night before grab breakfast. Theres a big spread of continental food, but even if you just fancy a coffee its worth stopping by to start the day in the elegant Victorian-style dining room.

Tour a vineyard: at Domaine de Grand Pré Winery. Of the 20 wineries in Nova Scotia this was the first and has been producing fine wines since 2000. While winters are harsh there is a short but productive growing season that results in dry but gentle whites with around an 11% ABV. Top picks include LAcadie Blanc with top notes of grapefruit and a buttery finish that pairs well with seafood.

Alias Grace, by Margaret AtwoodYou cant have a Canadian reading list without Margaret Atwood! The year is 1843, and Grace Marks has been convicted of the murders of her employer and his mistress . However, Grace has no memories of these vicious murders, and so an expert in mental illness steps in to seek a pardon for her. He listens to her story as it gets closer and closer to the day she cant remember. This book is disturbing but completely captivating, especially if youre already a fan of The Handmaids Tale. The Shipping News, by Annie ProulxA Pulitzer Prize winner, this story follows Quoyle, a newspaper hack who gets thrown out of his regular, mundane life when his wife dies. He moves back to his stark and remote ancestral home of Newfoundland with his two young daughters, where the local delicacy is cod cheeks and its easier to travel by boat and snowmobile than by car. This book reads like poetry. Its beautiful and although its fiction, it gives you plenty of insight into the uniqueness of Canadas easternmost province.

Where Is The Best Area To Stay

Myself and three other friends are planning a trip to for September. We will only be staying for one week, I know this is a short time span when visiting Nova Scotia because there is so much to see!

I’m just looking for some ideas on what area to stay in. I was looking into staying on Cape Breton Island however it would be a far drive to do activities on the south side of Nova Scotia as we are looking to set up shop in one area for the whole week. We are looking to do activities such as whale watching, hiking, beaches, kayaking , horse back riding, good food, and such!

No matter where you stay you cannot see of of from one place. Cape Breton has whale watching, and the other activities you mention. Even in Cape Breton you will be doing a lot of back and forth driving on hilly, twisty roads if you stay in one place.

Look at where the activities are and then decide where to stay. I would suggest the west coast somewhere around Belle Cote, Margaree, Harbour of Cheticamp.

But whether you go to Cape Breton or Southwestern , it would be better to stay in 2 different locations, so you wouldn’t spend extra time driving back and forth.

Drive The Cabot Trail

Nova Scotia Travel Guide – The Best Road Trip Ideas | The Planet D

Touted as one of the most scenic drives in North America, this 297 km route offers a stunning journey.

Located on Cape Breton Island which is an island connected to the mainland by a 2 km causeway, the Cabot Trail is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Nova Scotia.

Its a great place to drive, cycle, or experience the curvy road by motorbike.

I recommend taking Route 19 as you cross the causeway to Cape Breton Island. This is a picturesque route with nice places to stop along the way Mabou, Glenora Distillery, Celtic Music Interpretive Center, Inverness, and Margaree Forks.

At Margaree Forks, the route splits and you start the Cabot Trail.

Depending on your travel plans, you can choose to drive clockwise, or counterclockwise. The whole trail could be done in a day, but a more enjoyable way to experience it is to drive for a little bit, hop out of your vehicle and go for a hike, a swim, and a meal before spending the night somewhere along the trail.

Follow One Of The Trails

A really cool thing to do in Nova Scotia that I havent seen anywhere else is to follow one of the food and drink trails around the province.

Basically, you pick up a passport from a participating vendor, or you can register online for a digital passport. In this passport, youll find a list of tasty restaurants, bars and distilleries to sample the best food and drinks in Nova Scotia.

Once youve visited one of the stops, you get a stamp in your passport and once you have 3 stamps, you can enter to win prizes.

There are 3 trails:

With so many amazing restaurants and bars to enjoy, trying to figure out where to eat and drink is the hard part!

Why Go To Nova Scotia

If it wasnt for the watery views of the Minas Basin below, the gently sloping vineyard with row after row of vines could easily be mistaken for Tuscany. Its certainly not what I was expecting from Nova Scotia, a region more well-known for reds and whites of a different kind those of stripy lighthouses in clock-stopped coastal villages.

Yet Canadas second smallest province is packed with surprises beyond the obvious, not least its highly regarded wineries.

Taking a mini-road trip doable in four to five days means you can get around many of the regions highlights and enjoy hospitality in stunning hotels from sleek modern apartments to quaint inns.

Its impossible to get lost too, as the province’s roads largely either follow the coast or cross from shore to shore. And nothing’s more likely to make you feel like an adopted Nova Scotian than leisurely motoring along with a soundtrack of C100 FM blasting out on your hire cars radio, while en route to find your third lobster-based meal of the day.
