West Coast Best Place To Stay In Sicily For Beaches And History
THE WEST-COAST IS A GREAT PLACE TO STAY IN SICILY FOR
|
This part of Sicily is the real treasure of this beautiful region.
And you know the best part?
Most of the attractions are within 1 hour by bus or rented car, or a short ride with a cable car.
The only airport in this region is in Trapani. Its a small one with mostly flights from within Italy .
You can also take a flight to Palermo and from there you can catch a bus or rent a car .
If you are planning a stay at the beach then you should check out San Vito Lo Capo, for one of the best beaches in Sicily and possibly Europe.
The only drawback of having your hotel in San Vito Lo Capo is that you need to rent a car if you want to explore the nearby attractions and towns as public transportation is not the best.
San Vito Lo Capo is also one of the best places to stay in Sicily for family, thanks to its long and wide beach with shallow super clear water, a real haven.
If you are flying to Palermo I suggest booking here your direct transportation to/from the airport. Unfortunately, San Vito Lo Capo is not well connected to Palermo.
If you are wondering where to stay in Sicily for history besides Palermo then the Trapani Old Town should be your destination.
Its an open-air museum based on a multitude of architecture. Byzantine, Arab and Baroque are the most striking.

Mondello Where To Stay In Palermo On A Budget
If youre deciding where to stay in Palermo on a budget or just want to be on the beach, then Modello is the best place to stay. This area is on the beach and offers relaxation and calm away from the frenzied tourist parts of the city.
Its also a little cheaper than staying in the center because it can be a little inconvenient. You will need to hire a car or get very used to public transport in Palermo if you want to stay in this area and still explore the citys center.
Mondello offers a completely different experience than the city center. The beach is simply stunning, with turquoise waters and fine sand as well as buildings that are refined and architecturally significant.
This is the best neighborhood to stay in Palermo if you want a relaxing, quiet visit.

Catania Nice City To Stay In Sicily To Explore The Island
On the east coast of Sicily and in the shadow of the islands famous volcano, Catania is the second largest Sicilian city after Palermo.
The crime rate is moderate, with risk of pickpockets increasing in crowded areas and on public transport, and muggings being fairly prevalent.
However, travelling in a group, avoiding the streets after dark, and ensuring that valuables are not on display while travelling about can all minimise your risks tremendously.
Catanias mild crime problem is a new one the citys burgeoning tourist industry has encouraged a criminal element to seek their fortunes in the area!
Living in the shadow of an active volcano is something to be respectful of. Should an evacuation warning sound while you are in Catania, immediately make preparations and leave as ordered!
Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, with rumblings and lava spurts occurring frequently. The volcano has even been known to blow smoke rings perhaps a clear sign that the volcano is aware of its popularity with the many tourists that flock to Catania every year!
Getting around Catania is best done on foot, if possible. The city centre is compact and well-pedestrianised and it is easy enough to stroll across the area without too much effort.
To go further afield, the bus services are reasonable, with the various routes running between 10 and 40 minutes apart.
You can also take a small train that circles around the peak in nearly a full circle, from coast to coast.

City Is Very Very Dirty And Not Well Maintained But In
City is very, very dirty and not well maintained, but in short distance outside it’s borders there are beautiful small towns, beach, parks etc. Try going to Mondello beach or Monreale town up in mountain. With the help of googe maps it’s easy to understand public transportation and get around. I would never prefer to drive car in Paermo- terrible traffic. There are lot of pesdestrian streets with cafe’s and restaurants in the city centre.
I Would Walk Over To The Dock Or The Port And Spend 15

I would walk over to the dock, or the Port, and spend 15 minutes looking at the Ferries loading and unloading. There were several post offices but only one was open after 1:30 in the afternoon and the others had huge waiting lines because they closed so early. I walked 20 minutes to a post office that stayed open until or after 5 o’clock. There are several really good pharmacies. Some carried same brand-name items as in other European countries, so I did not have to do substitutions. I visited 4 grocery stores within a 15 to 20 minute walk. I did not take the bus, although I saw many buses. I used to enjoy the five minute walk up to the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, and enjoyed the gigantic Christmas tree, which was just strings of light to a pole, and the Christmas market that was held in the street alongside it.

Picnic At Riserva Dello Zingaro
70 minutes by car or taxi
This four-mile-long nature reserve west of Palermo begins with the Tonnara di Scopello hotel, a former tuna fishery active from the 13th to the 20th century. The park winds from Scopello to San Vito Lo Capo amid sea-worn limestone cliffs sheltering pebbly and sandy coves, along some of the bluest water in the Mediterranean. Grab a pane cunzato, a sandwich on wood-fired bread, at Forno di Stabile ed Anselmo in Scopello.
