Where To Stay In Park City Ski In Ski Out

Waldorf Astoria Park City

Some frustrated with reservation system as ski season begins at Park City Mountain Resort

If you are willing to contemplate properties that arent technically ski-in/ski-out by the strictest definition of the term, Waldorf Astoria Park City is a best-in-class experience located at the edge of the Canyons Village base area. A dedicated gondola brings you to the slopes, though you can ski back to the property if there is a good pack. Living up to the Waldorf name in every respect, this hotel literally has it all. The high-end furnishings and accommodations, the immaculate detailing, the exhaustive list of amenities they are all here. If the Grand Summit Hotel pool is one of the best in town, it is in direct competition with the Waldorfs, which includes cabanas, full-service bar, and even ice cream treats. The spa and fitness centers are ready to help you be your best self and achieve ultimate relaxation. For those trying to remain kosher on their trip, Waldorf Astoria Park City is only half a mile away from Park Citys only kosher restaurant.

Where To Stay In Park City

Downtown Park City provides the best access to the mountain and all of the happenings on main street. The 12-room Washington School House Hotel is in a renovated historic school house overlooking the middle of town. The pristine rooms have antique furnishings and plush linen-upholstered arm chairs. Let the valet take care of your skis while you grab your robe for a dunk in the hillside hot tub.

For a more home-away-from-home experience, check out the modern Imperial House. It has the amenities of a luxury hotel, like concierge services and a driver at the ready, but gives you free reign of the top two floors of a former 1900s boarding house. If youre looking to stock the fridge or pick up a fried chicken picnic dinner, Imperial Houses sister-shop Riverhorse Provisions is located right downstairs.

In Deer Valley, the iconic Stein Eriksen Lodge is a luxurious chalet with easy ski-in/ski-out access. The back deck is a prime après spot to catch the last light of the day and dip into their White Cheddar-and-Stout Fondue.

The Local Scoop On Canyons Village

Park City Utah Ski Resort Review!

What is Canyons Village? Canyons Village is the second base area of Park City Mountain, a typical resort village consisting mostly hotels, restaurants and apres options. Most of the buildings and properties are newer, giving the whole area a fresh, polished vibe mirrored by the high energy found in the village during popular travel seasons. Almost all the buildings in the area are focused entirely around the activity in the village, whether that means lodging, food, rentals, or other services. While not as secluded as Deer Valley, there are fewer ancillary activities and attractions in Canyons Village itself, and you may find yourself taking trips into the downtown or Kimball Junction areas to round out your stay. Located about 3-4 miles from Old Town and Main Street, Canyons Village is technically located in the area of town known as Snyderville. Almost any property you choose will be fairly recently constructed and on the upper side of quality.

Where To Stay And Ski Pros + Cons

The Canyons This location is about a 35 minute drive from the airport making it super convenient travel-wise. You can touchdown and be at your hotel in less than an hour! We didnt even rent a car because it was easy to ride-share everywhere. This is where we stayed but we wont stay here again.

The Canyons offers an amazing ski school and has a quaint après area at the base with fire pits, a stage and a couple of bars. They even had fireworks the first night we arrived. It also has all the equipment stores too so if you forget ski socks for your 3-year-old or need goggles for yourself, theyve got you covered.

The food overall at The Canyons left a lot to be desired. Like, over priced $6 pizza slices and previously frozen grilled burger patties galore. One night we ordered out 1 cheese pizza, 1 gluten-free pizza, 1 salad and 1 glass of wine at Murdocks and it was $75 which is absurd. That being said, there is one restaurant called The Farm which seemed like a viable option but you couldnt get in on a whim totally booked out with reservations which I can now see why! If you stay at The Canyons, be sure to make a reservation here in advance. I should probably add we were traveling on a holiday weekend so that could have been why they were booked out. Either way, something to consider.

Park City The Park City base is about 15 minutes further away from the airport than The Canyons base but you could still easily ride-share and manage without a car during your stay.

How To Ski Park City As A Beginner What To Pack Where To Eat Stay And More

March 19, 2019

Skiing is something Ive always wanted to do as a family but it just seems so intimidating as a beginner, doesnt it!? Well, we bit the bullet this past season and came out the other side better for it. Today Im guiding you through what to think about as a beginner and also recommending Park City, Utah as a beginners destination. Heres the scoop!

Okay so my boys had NEVER skied before and me and my husband are complete novices. I never would have selected Park City as a beginner destination but my friend who used to live there highly recommended it so we just went for it! And after a 5 day trip I have to say Im so glad we did. Here are some things I learned, would do differently, what I recommend for beginner skiers, skiing with small children and pros/cons about Park City as a location. Check it out.

There are three main mountain bases to ski out of in Park City. The Canyons, Park City and Deer Valley. The cool thing about skiing in Park City is you can literally start at one base and ski across/take lifts to another base. You can even plan to end the day by taking the lift right from Main Street. Its all connected!!! We couldnt do this yet as beginners because we were sticking to green trails only but its a goal for next year. FO SHO!

What I Packed For Me And Jason An Organic Ski Packing List For Adults

1.A wool base layer top and bottom this base layer IS EVERYTHING. Made from Marino wool, this layer keeps you warm in chilly temps and cool in hot temps. Dont ask me how all I can tell you is it works in cold weather. This is the only thing I needed under my insulated ski pants and it was perfect. Legs were never cold. But the best part? It has a cowl neck that you can leave loose or pull up over your head and cover everything leaving an exposed face circle. Cute and functional. DONE!

2. These insulated/waterproof ski pants and matching insulated/waterproof jacket. You could totally upgrade and spend more on something Gore-Tex which is more durable but for the occasional skier like me- this fit the bill. Like Im not planning on skiing more than a couple times each season nor are moguls or off-trailing in my vocab. Done and done.

3.A mid layer I grabbed an athletic zip up I had laying around which worked.

4. Mittens These are awesome because they come with a thin glove layer or skins to wear inside the mittens and because I was always taking my hands out of my gloves to take pics and video this was key! Other than that they kept my hands warm. Jason got these.

5. A neck/face warmer this one ended up shedding and left white fuzz all over my black layers. I will go for something like this next time which is warm and wont shed!

6.Goggles with UV protection, wool socks, lip balm, sunscreen, snacks, portable charger

The Best Places To Stay In Park City Utah

Nestled in the mountains at 7,000 feet, Park City remains one of the most preserved mining towns in America. On the historic downtown Main Street, youll find art galleries, local eateries, boutique and high-end shops, and unique bars. The annual Sundance Film Festival is largely held here in late January each year.

Utahs slogan is The Greatest Snow on Earth thanks to the unique conditions that create the best powder snow in the country. The 2002 Winter Olympics left a lasting impression, and the Utah Olympic Park can be used by visitors to try out bobsledding, ski jumping, or zip lining in the summer. Deer Valley and Park City Mountain are the two ski areas youll find here, and they offer more than 9,300 acres for skiing! Additionally, Woodward Park recently gained popularity as a fun terrain park and sledding hill for families to explore.

To be fair, both resorts are close to everything in Park City. The best attractions and restaurants can easily be accessed from either resort. However, the Canyons Village of Park City Mountain is the closest to the growing Kimball Junction area. Youll find an outlet mall, lots of great places to eat and traditional big box stores here if you need anything.

Deer Valley Coolest Area To Stay In Park City

Deer Valley is home to some of the best skiing in Utah with wide-open terrain, more days full of sunshine than we can count, and consistently good, powdery snow. In the summer months, the valley opens up into a haven for mountain bikers and hikers with masses of spectacular trails to explore.

Deer Valley Resort has a variety of sleek and cool bars to unwind in after a day of adventuring the mountains. If youre looking for an alternative to fast-paced activities, the neighborhood offers a range of more laid-back options including art galleries and museums.

What I Packed For The Boys An Organic Ski Packing List For Kids

1.A good base layer that will stay dry when they sweat . I got them a pair at Patagonia I had to go in store to have them order it fore me. I couldnt find it online. I bought two of each kid but one pair for 3 days was fine.

2. Insulated and waterproof ski pants. Waterproof is KEY and getting an insulated pair was ideal because they only needed these and the base layer on the bottom.

3. An insulated and waterproof coat. The boys already had this thin down jacket so I just bought a waterproof rain shell to wear over it and it worked out perfect. Plus now they are not stuck with a huge jacket they will never use in Atlanta.

4. A dry fit mid-layer for their core. This is a layer they can take on or off depending on their comfort level. Quinn wore his everyday but Cole was too hot with one on. We used a couple of old long sleeve zip ups but if you are buying new, opt for something dry-fit if you can find it. I like this one because it doesnt have a bulky hood.

5.Goggles make sure they have UV protection because the glare is so strong sometimes, you need them to act as sunglasses too so you can actually see.

8.Lip balm with SPF Apply before the kids head out but also stick one in their pocket especially if they are going to be away from you all day in ski school. Both my kids reapplied on their own.

10. Mittens Go with mittens over gloves. The heat from their fingers will help keep their hands warmer. These worked well for both my kids.
