Olympic Park In Park City

Make the short drive up to Park City for the totally unique experience of checking out the site of the 2002 Olympics. Though its been a LONG time since Salt Lake City hosted the Olympics, the Olympic Park Foundation has done a great job of keeping this site alive, active, and AMAZING.

The area features a bobsled track alpine slide, ski jumps, tubing course, ziplines, ropes course, and more.

You can take a tour, and imagine what it must feel like to be a ski jumper at the top of the enormous ski jump. And the kids will be amazed to learn that ski jumpers start taking the big jumps at only 10 years old! Youll also learn more about the history of the site and what it did for this relatively small town to host the Olympics.

Check the calendar as well. If you are REALLY lucky, you may be able to watch some athletes perform. We once visited a couple of weeks before the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and saw some of the Olympians jumping- what an experience!

Age Recommendation: Best for ages 10 and up, though all ages are welcome to visit. Many of the activities are intended for older kids, and toddlers may not be interested in the tour.

Where To Stay In Salt Lake City With Kids

The Grand America simply radiates opulence. Although it was built just for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, it has an air of storied old-world charm. Its formal crystal-bedecked chandeliers, Flemish tapestries, ornate stone fireplaces but not stuffy. A gorgeous interior courtyard, with parterre gardens that frame a fountain, offers plenty of space for younger ones to tire their little legs out.

My premier room was beautifully appointed, with a cozy seating area, a marble-clad bathroom and lovely mountain views. It could easily hold a small family, but suites offer more space to spread out some even have full kitchens.

Although my son is closer to the tween years than the baby stage, the hotels incredible family amenities made me wish Id stayed there with him when he was tiny. Just ask, and the staff will arrange for a rocking chair, Diaper Genie, bottle warmer, outlet covers and other equipment to be placed in your room. Can you imagine a more wonderful welcome for frazzled parents and fussy kids?

Historic Charm With Modern Amenities

The Peery Hotel

The Peery Hotel, built in 1910, is a charming Early Prairie-style building listed on the National Historic Register. The hotel once provided an elegant haven for those striking it rich in the Utah mining boom, and has been in continuous operation ever since. The Peery was fully remodeled in 1999, but it still gives a nod to its early 20th-century history and its ties to the railroad and mining industries. The interior mixes elegant new pieces with many of the original antiques a perfect mix of vintage and modern.

Its a beautiful hotel but theres more to The Peery than what meets the eye. Rumor has it that Moaning Molly haunts the elevator, making moaning sounds and sometimes moving the elevator from floor to floor when nobody has called it. Of course, the elevator is quite old, so who knows whether the moaning is truly from a ghost or the result of outdated machinery. But if the risk of a ghost encounter gives you the creeps, then youâll be glad to know that the stairs are a perfectly suitable option for this fairly small three-floor hotel .

Each of the 73 guestrooms has a view of downtown Salt Lake City along with new memory foam beds and crisp white sheets. The on-site hotel, Carnegies Public House, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
