Thursday Night Art Walk
Every Thursday night between November June, art galleries in the central Art District remain open until 9:00 pm, to encourage visitors and locals alike to get out and appreciate the art and creativity happening around the region.
Free wine and nibbles are usually provided by some of the galleries, and the city closes the street of Alvaro Obregon to allow pedestrians to spill out from the sidewalks. Browse paintings, sculptures, jewellery, photographs and more from local creatives, and enjoy the buzz of the town as it swells with visitors on Thursday nights.
The Thursday Art Walk is an initiative of the San Jose del Cabo Gallery District Association.

Where To Eat In San Jos Del Cabo
If you enjoy seafood, youll love it in San José del Cabo. Heres where we ate during our family vacation/wedding guest vacation:
Casa Don Rodrigo
A historic house built in the 1920s and run by the same Rodrigo family today. The menu offers up Mexican cuisine that feature their speciality cheese, made in house. Pair your cheese platter or cheese dish with a nice wine, tequila, or Mezcal Margarita or a winning meal.

Mama-Mias
This outdoor restaurant was a few blocks from our condo. The good food, affordable prices, and beachfront views meant our group of six came four days in a row for breakfast. We were never around for the lunch/dinner menu, but we enjoyed everything on the menu we tried .
Address: Carretera Transpenínsular Km 29.5. Zona Hotelera San José del Cabo.
Hours of operation: 8am-10pm
West Coast Tequila Co
This is your spot in the arts district for tequila tasting! The staff that work there are very friendly, including their pet pug who frequents the place. We found some really good qualities of Tequila through our tasting experience. This was a place that had set prices for their tequilas with less bargaining than youll find in other souvenir shops, which I personally prefer.

El Medano Best Place To Stay In Los Cabos For Your First Time
Playa El Medano is the beating heart of Cabo San Lucas. The beach stretching along the coast comes with peaceful sunbathing spots, epic water-sport providers and a 24/7 choice of restaurants and bars.
For first time visitors, El Medano is the best connected place in the city. Youll be within walking distance of all the best neighborhoods in Cabo San Lucas, and there are plenty of public transport connections to San José del Cabo.
International Or National Tourism
For some reason, San Jose del Cabo is mostly visited by National Tourists while Cabo San Lucas is preferred by International Tourists. In a way, San Jose del Cabo reminded me a bit of Puerto Vallarta while Cabo San Lucas reminded me of Nuevo Vallarta.
The staff and service providers of both cities are bilingual so in the grand scheme of things, this doesnt make a huge difference in my opinion.
That being said, I found out that theres more traditional Mexican street food in San Jose del Cabos downtown area in case youre craving some Baja fish tacos.
Winner: Tie.

About San Jos Del Cabo
Perched on the sandy shores of the Sea of Cortés, the elegant colonial town of San José del Cabo is a brilliant destination for art lovers, foodies and wildlife enthusiasts keen to kick back at the beach and explore Baja California Sur. Accommodation options range from intimate hideaways to cutting-edge luxury resorts, catering to a whole host of tastes and budgets. Whilst some of the areas top spots are appealingly family-friendly, the town is a particular favourite with couples some of the best places to stay in San José del Cabo are adults-only havens, perfect for a honeymoon or romantic escape.
Once a popular stop for Spanish trading ships seeking fresh water at the mouth of the Rio San José, San José del Cabo was officially founded in the early 18th century by Jesuit missionaries. A fort was built to defend the settlement from pirates, and the town evolved around the striking Plaza Mijares, dominated by the Mission San José del Cabo. At the heart of the historic district, this is a great place to delve into the towns complex past, peruse bustling markets, listen to live music and pop into fascinating museums and art galleries. The area is at its best during the annual Art Walk, when you can expect wine tastings, creative exhibitions and street musicians aplenty. The regions food is also a particular highlight: feast on fresh, seasonal fare and superb seafood both in town and at your hotel.
Hotel Posada Seor Manaa

Finding somewhere affordable to stay in San Jose del Cabo is no easy feat . Until we stumbled across the colourful and artistic Hotel Posada Señor Mañana. Located in San Joses historic art district, just steps from the main plaza and a short walk to the beach, it couldnt be in a better spot to access all the things to do in San Jose del Cabo. A hostel feel, without the dorm rooms, we loved the vibe here.
Housed in a lush, open courtyard the communal outdoor spaces are decorated with artwork, fairy lights, palm trees and a few friendly cats. There were so many places to sit down and work or chill out, and the wifi was incredible too. There is a shared kitchen on-site, and all rooms have private bathrooms. The shower was the best we have had in Baja, and for just 900 pesos a night this is a true gem!

Best Things To Do In San Jose Del Cabo
Between the charming centro and the beautiful beaches, there are plenty of things to do in San Jose del Cabo.
The broader Los Cabos area, being such a popular tourist destination, is full of all sorts of tours and activities. Practically any activity you imagine is on offer in Los Cabos. ATVs, horse riding on the beach, swimming with dolphins and other unethical experiences that dont necessarily have anything to do with the destination, culture or environment. You wont find any of those things listed here, and I have focused on sharing the best things to do in San Jose del Cabo specifically, not tourist trap tours.

Staying In Todos Santos
Halfway between La Paz and Cabo San Lucas, Todos Santos is a beautiful colonial town with sensitively restored, centuries-old architecture. Its population is a lively mix of Mexicans and artistically-inclined expats, reflected in the relatively low-key vibe and a clutch of offbeat art galleries. Palm-fringed Plaza Todos Santos aside, attractions include the local cultural center and the white-sand beaches, though they tend to be better for surfing than for swimming. Todos Santos also features an excellent dining scene and some fine boutique hotels.
Jw Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa
The buildings forming the JW Marriot Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa sit around a giant central courtyard filled with outdoor pools, sundeck, and shady palms. Golf lovers can fill their days on the greens of the 27-hole course. If youd prefer a little me-time, look no further than the Jasha Spa & Salon. Foodies have the choice of six different restaurants and bars, while the rooms ocean views are also well-worth lingering over.

This Is A Culturally Rich City Far Quieter Than Cabo San
This is a culturally rich city, far quieter than Cabo San Lucas. Friendly, safe, amazing Thursday night art market. The Hangman resto in San Jose was such a great experience Essentially, we’d be back in a nanosecond. We still enjoyed staying at La Marina Inn to get a bit of quiet and distance from the tourist bustle, but San Jose Del Cabo is such a great place to visit, especially outside of the hotel zones.

Why Are Resorts So Exhausting
Look at the glossy brochures and its easy to get sucked into the concept of a resort. Inviting swimming pools, fresh fish for dinner overlooking the ocean. Beach. Buffet. Bar. Bed. Rinse. Repeat. No pressure. No problems.
What isnt there to love?
Before I became a dedicated independent traveller, resorts were my go-to choice for a relaxing hotel. Except, my resort-based trips always seemed to turn out differently than the travel brochures promised. Instead of heading home glowing, Id return from a resort-based break feeling frazzled, stuffed to the brim with over-indulgence and a little bit more brain-dead than the day Id arrived. Not a collection of states I aspire to.
But why are resorts so sneakily exhausting? And I say sneakily because it wasnt until I started to experience tourism outside of resorts that I realised how un-refreshing resorts actually were by comparison.
Stepping back into a resort in Cuba after a four-year break, I suddenly realised how the resort formula can be fundamentally detrimental to the concept of relaxation. Set activity times, buffet lines, unreasonable a la carte reservation requirements and hundreds of other guests to contend withsome of whom are in large boisterous groups and others who have decided to take a break from parenting for two weeks.
But what alternative is there?

What Are The Best Areas To Stay In Baja
Best Places in Baja California for Sightseeing: Todos Santos, San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, La PazLets face it: few visitors come to Baja Sur primarily for sightseeing. But if youre into colonial architecture, then the towns of San José del Cabo, Todos Santos, and La Paz all have plenty to offer: adobe houses, appealing centuries-old churches, and narrow cobbled streets that are a joy to wander. And while Cabo San Lucas may lack the colonial charm of its neighbor towns, it features Baja Surs biggest natural attraction: the natural stone arch at Lands End, walkable from town and very popular at sunset.
Best Place in Baja California for Nightlife: Cabo San LucasCabo San Lucas is Baja Surs undisputed party town, with bottomless margaritas fuelling the revelry all day long. The nightlife kicks up a notch when the spring breakers get into town, with dancing on table tops, jello shooters, and tequila conga lines. Some of the most popular bars and nightspots include the legendary El Squid Roe, Cabo Wabo, The Giggling Marlin, and the Happy Ending Cantina, with many of the watering holes clustered near the marina.
Safest Areas of Baja California Sur: Baja California Sur is generally safe for visitors, particularly compared to other parts of Mexico. Tourist hotspots such as Todos Santos, San José del Cabo, La Paz, etc. are generally safe to walk around at any time of day, though standard precautions apply.
