Las Galeras Amazing Beach Area With Less Tourists
Located on the northeastern tip of the island, Las Galeras is a coastal town that is just starting to be discovered by tourists. If you travel there now, you will find that it is a miniature version of Punta Cana in some districts and a traditional fishing village in others.
The beaches here have not been overrun with all-inclusive hotels in fact, most of the lodging options will require you to walk about 10 minutes to get to the sand.
The prices are a little higher than at Punta Cana, and this is because most of the hotels are new, which means that investors are trying to recover their investments.
What you will not find is Las Galeras are crowded beaches. This vacation spot is still being discussed in hushed tones by European travelers even though you will find that many of them have already settled here.
A nice gastronomy scene is emerging in Las Galeras thanks to European chefs who have opened restaurants in recent years. The active fishing and local farms make this town perfect for fine cuisine.
If you want to visit hidden beaches, Las Galeras is a great starting point because the local tour operators will be happy to take your there.
Backpackers will find budget hotels in the town. Luxury long-term vacation rentals are closer to the beach, and some of them offer spectacular views.

San Felipe De Puerto Plata
San Felipe de Puerto Plata is the capital of the Puerto Plata province that lies just off the Dominican Republics Atlantic North Coast. Like so many other destinations known in the Dominican Republic, this is also a city known for its beaches. Playa Doradas beachfront is lined with resorts and an exquisite golf course. This agricultural hinterland is also a major tobacco-producing area, and bananas, sugarcane, and dairy products are economically significant as well.
Although the beaches offer a myriad of activities to keep the whole family entertained, tourists who are ready to venture beyond the resort confines will find many things to do in and around Puerto Plata. There are museums, natural areas, the historic Fort San Felipe, an interactive water park , restaurants and cafés to explore and experience.
San Felipe is a prime location for family vacations thanks to its wide variety of outdoor excursions available and is a great place to keep the kids entertained. Accommodation caters to the family too, but if you wish to look for something that it is not resort-based, the does offer condos and holiday rentals for those who wish to enjoy a stay that is closer to home.
The Most Historic Setting: Pura Tasca & Pate Palo At Plaza Espaa
If you are in Santo Domingo just for 1 night and would like to dine at THE most emblematic place of the city, then you have to go to Plaza España in the Colonial Zone. It is the most historic place of the entire city, with Casa Colón being right on the square, Calle Las Damas ending at Plaza España and the Museo de las Casas Reales nearby.
Plaza España is home to a couple of restaurants, which all feature a marvellous view of Casa Colón, especially at night. Musicians playing typical Dominican music and a muted illumination of both, the public plaza and the restaurants create a romantic atmosphere. In terms of food and ambience at Plaza España, I recommend Pate Palo and Pura Tasca.
While Pate Palo is probably the most historic and well-known restaurant serving traditional food in an elegant atmosphere, Pura Tasca is one of the cheaper options at Plaza España and serves a fusion of Dominican classics and Spanish tapas. As with all the restaurants at Plaza España, both recommendations offer food and service that are excellent.Address: Plaza España, Ciudad Colonial, Santo Domingo

The Dominican Republics Three Eyes National Park is a nature reserve and open-air limestone cave system with a series of crystal clear lakes known as the eyes. Located in Santo Domingo, just ten minutes by car from the popular Colonial Zone, the park provides a sweet respite from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. Along with a guided tour, these stunning open water caves also offer deeper insights into the pre-colonial and ancestral origins of the Dominican Republic. Tres Ojos tours start at around $50.

Day : Santo Domingo And The Punta Cana Airport
Your final day will depend or where you are flying from to return home. If youre flying from the Santo Domingo airport, then just stay where you are.
But if youre flying from Punta Canta out of the same airport you arrived in, youll have to get from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana. So, its up to you to organize your transportation and make sure you have plenty of time to arrive. If you rented a car, itll be much easier to get between the two cities than by bus.

The Best Sandwiches In Town: La Moricette
Although local food is always interesting to try, I know the feeling when you are just craving for a good ol sandwich with oven-baked and crunchy bread. It can be particularly hard to find in many Latin American countries. Luckily, there is the French Café La Moricette right at the pedestrian zone Calle Conde, which offers a wide selection of super fresh sandwiches prepared using home-made bread and also includes vegetarian options. My favorite is the feta sandwich and the tomato-mozzarella focaccia.
They also have plenty of tables to sit at which are perfect for people-watching, thanks to their strategic location in one of the busiest parts of the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo. For a few months of the eyar, they also offer a warm and home-cooked dish of the day.Address: Calle El Conde 251, Ciudad Colonial, Santo Domingo

How To Get Around
Santo Domingo is a huge city. Getting around can be difficult. To make matters worse, traffic can be atrocious. Moving from different areas of the city during the day can over an hour. Try to avoid moving around during rush hour like its the plague!
On a positive note, Uber works incredibly well in Santo Domingo. Never, ever take a taxi! Get an Orange sim card and use Uber everywhere you go. Most of my rides only cost $2-5 apiece. Thats chump change. Plus, Uber is safe, and youll never have to worry about a taxi driver trying to rip you off.
Pro-tip: If your Uber driver gets lost or takes you on a route thats incredibly inefficient, just email Uber through the app and complain. Theyll issue a refund automatically after looking at the GPS map.
Cabarete Windsurf And Kitesurf Paradise
True to its name, Cabarete is a bohemian beach town that attracts younger and fun-loving tourists. Some backpackers skip the rest of the island and settle here for their entire stay in DR.
Surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kite surfing, windsurfing, and snorkeling are popular daytime activities. At night, guests crowd the beach bars and dance clubs in the nearby small town.
This beach community has the highest concentration of hostels and surf lodges in DR, but you can also find a few upscale beach hotels.
This is not a family-friendly vacation spot depending on the hotel where you choose to stay, you may find it to be a little loud at night.

Transportation: How To Get Around Santo Domingo
Uber: Getting around Santo Domingo can be safe, relatively affordable via Uber . Use code: q0vfd for $5 off your first Uber ride!
Traditional Taxi: You can call a taxi, which is also safe but will be more expensive than Uber.
Carrito: A local shared carpool or bus is around 0.50 or 0.60 USD within the city and goes up depending on where you are going.
OMSA: Theres also the OMSA, which is a little bit cheaper. Please note that most public forms of transportation can have a steep learning curve for tourists.
Metro: The metro is relatively new and is mostly for locals who live in the outskirts of the city. So its very unlikely that youll use it unless youre going to say, Villa Mella. Here is a map to see all the stops.
Car Rentals are not necessary in the capital. We recommend avoiding having to drive in Santo Domingo for safety and convenience.
Malecon Inn And Suites

With its white-sand beaches, stunning coastline, coconut plantations, and romantic hotels, it is definitely the best place to stay in the Dominican Republic for those who are looking for a romantic getaway.
Imagine spending days on the white sand beach, having a coconut under the palm trees, and swimming in the Caribbean sea. Las Terrenas has everything you expect from a tropical island holiday!
Even though you can find beautiful beaches all around the island, here you will be able to find more couple-friendly hotels in secluded areas. I know you cant wait to run to the beach so lets find a perfect place for you to have an unforgettable holiday.

Santa Cruz De Barahona Solitude In A Botanical Paradise
All of the vacation spots we have reviewed thus far are located on the east and northern coasts of DR. Santa Cruz de Barahona is on the southern coast, and it has a more tropical and Caribbean feel.
Santa Cruz is the kind of place where you can enjoy solitude in a botanical paradise this is the only spot in DR where you can find a cloud forest preserve, and the jungle orchid species that you can see here do not grow anywhere else in the world.
There are a few beaches here, but the most accessible is San Rafael. Aside from ecotourism and the beach, there is not much to do here, although a couple of seafood restaurants are worth checking out.
Most of the hotels are beach lodges, but you can also find a couple of vacation rentals. Prices are lower compared to Santo Domingo.

Pm Views From The 809
For above-ground views of the city and the lush greenery interspersed throughout, ride the citys cable car, which many locals use to commute to the city center. Get on at the Eduardo Brito stop and ride in a loop for 20 pesos. Youll enjoy panoramic views of the Ozama and Isabela Rivers and neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city, including Sábana Perdida and Gualey. On a recent trip, children could be seen splashing in a natural watering hole below, while others played baseball, the islands most popular sport.

San Felipe De Puerto Plata Mountains And Golden Sandy Beaches
Some of the highest points of Hispaniola are located on a mountain range that cuts the island across from Haiti all the way to DR this is where you will find the mountainous community of San Felipe.
If you are staying in the Puerto Plata area, your choices boil down to Cabarete and San Felipe, and we strongly recommend the latter if you are traveling in a family group. Bring your camera when you take a teleferico tour of San Felipe.
Not only are the views breathtaking but there is also a replica Christ the Redeemer, the famous sculpture in Rio de Janeiro, at the highest point.
Alternating from the mountains to the golden sandy beaches is something that all tourists enjoy in San Felipe, but the center of this charming town, which is blessed with very pleasant climate the entire year, is also worth visiting because of its regional cuisine.
Backpackers will find couple of hostels and shared furnished apartments in the small downtown district for very affordable prices, but these accommodations tend to be very spartan you are better off in some of the beach hotels.
A few all-inclusive hotels and adults-only resort round out the lodging options, which are very reasonable.
