Sea Ranch has a special place in my heart.
Its located right along my favorite highway in the world, the PCH, and I have many fond memories of going up to Sea Ranch with a group of friends from high school and staying at a friends vacation rental there.
Time always seemed to slow down in Sea Ranch: it was all about relaxing with loved ones, playing board games, making large family dinners, and eating way too much, all interspersed with long walks along the coastal bluffs of Sea Ranch.
Its the perfect place for a weekend getaway from San Francisco or even a stop along a PCH road trip.
One of the coolest things about Sea Ranch is that is a planned community with a focus on back-to-nature architecture, the heart of an architectural movement in the 1960s which focused on integrating design into the natural landscape, and not the other way around.
However, the movement was still quite influenced by modernism, so as a result, you see a beautiful contrast of naturally-toned yet structurally beautiful exteriors with vibrant, nature-inspired interiors that arent afraid to shy away from the color which the exteriors lack.
If youre planning to stay in Sea Ranch, renting an Airbnb is an obvious choice the only choice, in fact, as the Sea Ranch Lodge is currently under renovation!

Theres a community pool for residents at Sea Ranch but we didnt end up going because we were too cold. Theres a big golf course there too none of us golf but I imagine it must be one of the most beautiful places to do it! We made lunch and then headed to Salt Point State Park for a walk around the trails. The wildflowers were in full bloom when we were there, and some of the ice plants looked like bright-colored shaggy carpet all over the hillside .

If youre up for an afternoon drive, take the twisty country road eight miles up the hill to Annapolis Winery for some free wine tasting with panoramic vineyard views. If my towns beach has taught me anything, its that each stretch of the California coast has its own ambiance, its own stories to tell.
Mind on Mendonoma
Mendonoma is a made-up term for a magical place in the middle between Sonoma and Mendocino counties, about 100 miles north of San Francisco.
Thats where youll find The Sea Ranch, an unincorporated area of coastline perfect for seekers of Pacific peace and serenity.
The place, at the very top of Californias Sonoma coast, features plenty of big nature and low profile lodging meant to blend in with the landscape often with ocean views.
You wont find many shops or restaurants in The Sea Ranch proper. For that, youll want to head just a few miles north to Gualala in Mendocino. More about that in a bit.

There is also a wood stove which is a great way to feel extra cozy and romantic at night when the chill sets in, and the decor of the living room is centered around that.
Meanwhile, theres also a kitchen space which you can easily use to cook up a romantic meal for two, a dining area, as well as a flatscreen TV with smart TV capability, and high-speed WiFi in case you need to log on during your time away.
