Where To Stay In Shoreditch

Safe Places To Stay In London

LONDON GUIDE: SHOREDITCH | My favourite places

When it comes to nice areas to stay in London, there are plenty. If you are looking for popular places to stay in London there are plenty of areas for that too. I think what is sometimes harder for people to judge especially new visitors to London, is the safe parts of London or the safest London neighborhoods.

All of the places I have mention below are places that I would happily stay in myself but have also recommended them because of the ease to get to, their close proximity to tourist attractions but also because they are pretty safe. While deciding what neighborhood to stay in London, might be difficult, I have hopefully made it slightly easier for you to make that decision.

For places I wouldnt recommend you stay in, these include Waltham Forest, Newham and some parts of Tower Hamlets. None of these are included below anyway.

Staying In Westminster And Southbank

Southbank is the best area to stay for: river views, tourist hot spot, riverside entertainment

The city of Westminster located in Central London is also a part of the famous West End area. It is home to some of the most famous monuments and buildings in London on the north bank of the River Thames. These include the Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Palace of Westminster aka House of Parliament, and the Westminster Cathedral. You shouldnt miss the 150+-year-old Big Ben, one of Londons most famous landmarks. Trafalgar Square is also in Westminster and the area is one of the easiest to go around by foot. Tourist attractions near Southbank and Westminister: Big Ben, Westminister Bridge, Downing Street, National Theatre, Somerset House, Southbank Food Market, London Eye.

Explore The Shops Stalls And Bars At Boxpark

I have no idea why hipsters love shipping containers so much but theres no denying that Boxpark is pretty freaking cool.

The bottom level is filled with quirky design shops, coffee shops, and affordable restaurants, whereas the top level is where youll find the bars and some delicious late night eateries. Super compact and right in the heart of Shoreditch, youll certainly end up walking past Boxpark at some point or another, so be sure to give it a visit!

Staying In Chelsea And Victoria

Chelsea is the best area to stay for: big townhouses, upscale homes, boutiques as well as some low budget towards Victoria.

If you want to enjoy a spot of shopping, then you will enjoy the high-end stores in Chelsea. Located on the River Thames, its amongst one of the more affluent areas of London. If you choose to stay in Chelsea in London, make sure to check out the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square and the Saatchi Gallery located at the Duke of York Square.

If youre a football fan , take in a match at the Chelsea football club stadium at Stamford Bridge, or enjoy a tour of the stadium. You also have Sloan Square and Knightsbridge which are a mecca for Londons upscale boutiques.

Tourist attractions near Chelsea include: Harrods, Sloan Street, Victoria and Albert Museum, Science Museum and Battersea Park.

Suggested Stay In Covent Garden: The Henrietta Hotel

Where to Stay in London !!! The Ace Hotel London in ...

A chic pick in the centre of town.

The Henrietta

Prestigious Hotel In the Heart of Covent Garden

The Henrietta is one of my favourite places to stay in London. Its cool and chic yet doles out spectacular 5* service, making guests feel comfortable. Inside the hotel feels like someones home. Thats partly down to the size and partly down to the decor. Think contemporary minimalist with quirky art deco touches. Interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon has gone to town in the bedrooms gold lamps, mirrors, upholstered headboards. It all sounds too garish for words when you describe it, but in reality its just beautiful. Its nice to see something a bit different to the standard white walls with neutral accents favoured by many hotels. Thats all before you get to the incredible location, mere paces away from Covent Garden Market. Highly recommended.

Where To Stay In London With Kids

This is usually a tough one to answer as the answer depends on whether you are a family looking to save money or money is no object. If you are looking at quiet places to stay with kids as well as amenities for children then look at Greenwich, there are some Lovely flats in the area to rent as well as the beautiful Greenwich park for the kids to run around until their little hearts are content.

You also have places the around Hyde Park like Marylebone, Mayfair, Knightsbridge Paddington, and Kensington. You have the beautiful Hydepark with Pedlos on the Serpentine, there are beautiful cafes and galleries in the park, you can also find the beautiful Little Venice here as well as the and you are also close to the shopping Mecca that is Oxford street as well as theatres but not too close that you will be hit with the noise or hustle and bustle.

There is a great choice of hotels and homes to rent here too. The only thing to be aware of is that it tends to be pricier than places like Greenwich but you can still find bargains.

Go To Columbia Road Flower Market

This is the iconic East End Flower Market, loved by Londoners all over. Amazingly in 7 years of living in London, I never actually made it here.

Visit on a weekend though and youll see all the hipsters carrying their succulent swag back to their homes. It gets really busy here but its one of the top things to do in Shoreditch, so its totally worth it.

I presume.

Stop By Spitalfields Market

THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN SHOREDITCH | THE LONDON GUIDE

While theres some contestation over whether Spitalfields Markets can be classified as Shoreditch or not, being just a short walk away from many of the other attractions in this post Im going to include it anyway.

East Londons large Spitalfields Market is comprised of two main areas Old Spitalfields Market, a quirky covered market with plenty of fashion and food traders housed inside one of the best surviving Victorian Market Halls in the capital, and Spitalfields Traders Market, which homes a range of independent traders selling unique, artisan and hand-crafted goods.

One of Londons must-visit markets, Spitalfields also hosts regular special events including foodie festivals, themed pop-ups, dance classes and plenty more so keep your eye on the busy schedule.

Where To Stay In Shoreditch

When I chose Shoreditch as my base for my most recent London trip, part of the appeal was getting to stay at the citizenM Shoreditch, which just opened in fall of 2016. I first heard of citizenM when visiting my friend Megan at her hotel at the Tower of London location and enjoyed the design.

The rooms arent huge, but all in all, I was super happy with my stay at citizenM and would gladly book again in the future, and I would recommend it without reservations to similar-minded travelers to London. In a city as expensive as London, its really rare to find mid-range accommodations in centrally-located parts of the city, so citizenM is filling a much-needed gap in the market.

One of my favorite things about citizenM is how the public space is incredibly energizing and creative design-focused without being stuffy or pretentious.

citizenM has reinvented the concept of the lobby, turning it into a creative, communal space complete with a bar, long coworking tables, and tons of private nooks and crannies where you can enjoy a coffee, drink, or a chat. It also seemed to be quite a popular space to work.

Had I been in a more responsible mood that weekend, I likely would have taken advantage of the fast WiFi and the vibrant but relaxed atmosphere to get some work done.

Have you been to Shoreditch? What have I missed that I should put on my list for next time?

Sample Street Food All Along Brick Lane

Brick Lane is one of the most famous streets in London for a reason, and its vibrant on this street all week long in London. However, Sundays bring Brick Lane to life even more than it usually is, with tons of street food with cuisines from all around the world represented.

Everything from richly fatty tonkatsu ramen to Ethiopian food with spongy injera bread can be found on the streets and in the small markets just adjacent to Brick Lane. I could spend days and days eating my way through the stalls here, but I opted for tacos, since I have such trouble finding decent Mexican food in Europe, and was really pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was.

Where To Stay: Shoreditch Vs Covent Garden Area

I will be visiting London for the first time in mid-November for 4 nights. My travel mate and I are trying to decide between these two areas as each have been suggested to us by different people for different reasons.

While Shoreditch seems to be a very nice, “fun ” and trendy area, not to mention less expensive, I am concerned that it is a bit removed from everything. If we were in an area more central, we’d have options – we could try various different neighborhoods each night or even be able to move between areas easily within the same night. Also I feel if we were more central it would be easier to pop in to our apartment/hotel to freshen up if need be. If we were in Shoreditch we would either be stick with what we left with in the am or have to waste about an hour traveling back and forth. Lastly since our stay is short, we would spend less time traveling to the places we want to visit.

Some places on our list, basically all the “must-dos”: The London Eye, Kensington Gardens, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul’s Cathedral, a traditional pub crawl, Tower of London, Trafalgar Sq., Imperial War museum & other museums, Royal Albert Hall…to name a few.

Part of the issue is also accommodations. We are trying to keep it under $200USD per night and this seems to be hard to find in the more central locations. In Shoreditch we find more options for less.

Thank you.

Shoreditch ‘wild’? More than a little self-satisfied but wild isn’t the word that comes to mind as a descriptor.
