Courtyard Soho Vs Standard East Village
Hi everyone,
I currently have a cancellable room booked at the Courtyard Manhattan SoHo for 4 nights in June. I have been keeping an eye out for other hotel deals and have come across a special rate at The Standard East Village for slightly more .
Details are :
DATES: Friday June 7th Tuesday June 11th
COURTYARD SOHO King Guest Room, 290sqft, $1390.62.
– Good location, basic chain hotel, wifi included.
STANDARD EAST VILLAGE Village King Room, 300sqft, $1525.83.
– Room has a Manhattan skyline view and wifi is included.
– There are renovations going on in the restaurant/ground level however reviews dont seem to say this is an issue. To make up for the renovations, breakfast is included in their rooftop Penthouse .
Im now torn between them. Price isnt a big factor if there is a big enough difference between hotels, as its only ~$33/night extra for The Standard. I guess Im thinking The Standard is a bit cooler than the Courtyard hotel?
How do the locations compare?
We are spending 7 nights at the Affinia Shelburne earlier so we want these 4 nights around Greenwich Village/SoHo/East Village areas.

The Standard is not a “bit” cooler but waaaay cooler. But you could easily buy breakfast for less than $33/day. The location of the Standard is better for dining. The Courtyard is probably better for shopping.

Lower Manhattan Where To Stay In New York City For Photography
Lower Manhattan including the Financial District, Lower East Side and Brooklyn Bridge is teeming with a wide range of hotel possibilities.
This area is famed for business and stock exchanges but dont let that put you off, theres a lot more to do at the bottom of Manhattan and it is currently in a growth phase.
Cobblestone streets, stunning architecture, hidden gem hole-in-the-wall eateries, up and coming live music bars and riverside activities will keep you busy.

Cheap Accommodation In New Jersey
New Jersey is another state, but is located right across from Manhattan on the other side of the Hudson River.
Jersey City is right across from Manhattan and especially the hotels right at the water habe a beautiful view of the Manhattan Skyline. However, the hotel prices are not cheaper than in Manhattan, simply because you can get there pretty fast by subway.
If you really want to save money, you should look at the hotels in Newark. They dont offer a view on Manhattan, since Newark is located a little further outside, but a good room costs between 100 and 150 euros.
You should definitely book a hotel close to the Newark Penn Station. With the red PATH Train Line you will need 22 minutes to the World Trade Center. A one way ticket costs $ 2,75 .
Pros of staying in Newark:
- You get more for your money than in Manhattan
- If you land in Newark, you are closer to the airport
Cons of staying in Newark:
- You will need 20 to 30 minutes to get to Manhattan
- You dont have a view on the skyline, so you dont get that authentic New York feel
