St Simons Island Weather And Location Info
St. Simons Island is one of a string of Islands in Georgia that make up the Golden Isles. Its located on the southeast corner of Georgia, with easy Interstate access via I-95. Its about equal distance to fly commercial into Savannah, Ga., or Jacksonville, Fl. Nearby Brunswick also has daily direct flights via Delta Air Lines to and from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Private planes can fly directly to the Island.
St. Simons weather is mild with highs in the 80s and lows in the 40s, making it a great year round destination. In fact, weve spent many a December day on the beach, sometimes even in the water. Rain peaks in August and September, but there really isnt a real rainy season.

Lunch Or Casual Dinner
Bubba Garcias | 200 Redfern Village – Laid back local spot in Redfern Village serving up classic Mexican dishes like tostadas, street tacos, and a few dishes with a Southern twist .
Gnats Landing | 310 Redfern Village – Casual bar and grill with lots of outdoor seating. Great burgers, sandwiches, seafood platters, and excellent drink selection.
Southern Soul BBQ | 2020 Demere Rd – Uber casual joint housed in an old gas station in the center of SSI. They have award-winning BBQ and sauces but my favorite thing is the smoked chicken salad.
The Half Shell | 504 Beachview Dr – I love this spot for when Im craving straight up seafood. They have a full menu, but I typically go for raw oysters, peel and eat shrimp, maybe an order of hush puppies, and a beer. So simple but so good.
CJs | 405 Mallery St – Its been around for decades and still a classic. I go with the Magic Mushroom pizza and a Greek salad every time but they have plenty of pastas to choose from as well. Go deep dish for sure. Best Ive ever had.

Welcome To The Golden Isles Of Georgia
Did you know that the state of Georgia has a stretch of barrier islands unlike anywhere else in the US? Some are fancy with stately homes and elusive celebrities, some are all natural with ruins of pre-Civil War forts and oaks draped in moss. Whichever island you find yourself on, from Sea Island to Little St. Simons to Jekyll or anywhere in between, all the Georgia islands are as friendly and Southern as sweet tea.
Golden Isles Olive Oil
If you love unique olive oils and balsamics, dont skip this unique thing to do on St. Simons! SO MANY options your mind will be blown! They had such amazing combinations that you would probably never even imagine.
A few intriguing olive oils I saw were infused bacon, white truffle, and blood orange! Dont even get me started on the balsamics, which included flavors like lavender, dark chocolate, and blueberry!
I went with the Sicilian lemon white balsamic vinegar and Tuscan herb-infused olive oil! It was SO hard to choose! Luckily, they allow you to sample to help you narrow down your options. If you have any room after lunch , they also have a wine bar and offer charcuterie boards.

St Simons Island Beaches
No trip to an island is complete without a day at the beach . Unlike the soft white sands of the Gulf and rocky West Coast, the beaches here have big dune ridges and wide beaches making them perfect for beach games with a group or a sunset beach walk. These dunes are brimming with fragile coastal plants and critters. Be mindful of this no matter which beach you decide to check out and stick to the obvious path and dont go climbing around on the delicate dunes so that ecosystem can stay safe. Here are a couple of beaches to check out in St. Simons Island.
St. Simons Island is small but theres so much to do and see that Id recommend staying a week, especially if youve never been. That way you can see some of the sites and still have a few days to chill out because whats the point of going on an island vacation if youre not going to relax?
Explore St Simons Island By Bike
There are over 30 miles of bike paths on St. Simons Island so you can totally ditch your car at the hotel and cruise underneath the oaks without having to worry about traffic. Start on one end of the island and work your way to the other but dont forget to stop for a snack and keep your eyes peeled for the famous tree spirits. Check out this map. If you need to rent a bike while youre in town, check out these two locally-owned shops. Monkeywrench Bikes or Benjys Bikes .

World War Ii Homefront Museum
We seek out World War II museums along our travels, and the World War II Homefront Museum on St. Simons is one of our top favorites. Housed in the historic St. Simons Coast Guard Station, the museum highlights the role Coastal Georgia played in World War II.
There are interactive and immersive museum exhibits on radar technology and directing fighter pilot squadrons that guests can use to test their skills.
Youll hear stories from locals who worked building liberty ships in Brunswick, what it was like during blackouts, and food rationing.
Admission to the World War II Homefront Museum is under $15 for adults, and rates are discounted for children and those with military ID.

The King And Prince Beach And Golf Resort
You absolutely cant go wrong with a stay at The King and Prince. Its my favorite spot on the island for comfy accommodations and good food at ECHO, the only oceanfront restaurant on the island. And speaking of oceanfront, its the No. 1 place to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic, either from your balcony, a swing under the palm trees or from a lounger on the pool deck.
St. Simons is a compact island, so youre never too far from whatever is on your Golden Isles bucket list. While The King and Prince Hotel is located conveniently on St. Simons Island, its also a great central spot to base yourself for adventures on neighboring Sea Island, Little St. Simons and Jekyll Island.
Now, Im no golfer, but apparently the resorts award-winning golf course is a huge draw. The good news is that you dont have to have a putter to appreciate the St. Simons Island, so pick an oceanfront villa, rent a bike and cruise on the sand or have a picnic on the pool deck.
Wake Up Coffee Company
Definitely start here for a cup of coffee before heading right next door for lunch! The setup and aesthetic here were SO cute! Coffee was only available to go at the time we went because of COVID, but when dine-in is available here again, it seems like the perfect workspace!
So if you have a little bit of extra time in this area, I definitely recommend chilling here for a little while you enjoy your bomb coffee! We had a vanilla cappuccino that was so delish! ALSO, check out how freaking cute their merch is at their shop! Im truly obsessed with everything about this place.

Ultimate Guide To A Weekend In St Simons Island Georgia
Do you hear that? Gentle breezes in ancient oak trees calm waves lapping the shore of an impossibly wide stretch of beach laughter echoing down the street from the best local restaurants. Where are you? It must be St. Simons Island, Georgia, ranked one of the U.S. Best Coastal Small Towns by USA Today.
Appreciated for a rich history spanning from 2500 BC to the Revolutionary War to World War II, the island is also known for its natural beauty, salt marshes, palm trees and moss-covered oaks, as well as long stretches of wide beach. St. Simons Island is one of the friendliest, quietest, loveliest little gems you could ever hope to find. And its about an hour from Savannah and Jacksonville, 3 hours from Charleston, SC, and about 5 hours from Atlanta, Ga., or Charlotte, NC.
History Of The King And Prince Hotel
If the prime location wasnt enough to woo you, perhaps The King and Princes historic significance will do the trick. The property first opened back in 1935 as a seaside dance club. How glamorous! A few years later, the main building opened as the King and Prince Hotel.
It wasnt long until World War II changed everything, and the hotel went from luxe accommodations to a naval outpost and training facility. After the war ended, it became a hotel once again. Today, you can see tributes to wartime throughout the hotel in various exhibits. Even ECHO, the onsite restaurant, pays homage!

Visit Pier Village Neptune Park And The Lighthouse
One of only 5 lighthouses remaining in Georgia, St. Simons lighthouse is a landmark you dont want to miss. You can club 129 steps to the top for incredible views of the Golden Isles. Adjacent to the Lighthouse and Pier Village, Neptune Park is a public pool, playground, mini golf course, water park and picnic area that kids go crazy for.
This area is also your best bet for fun, local shopping.
Best Hotels On St Simons Island
The King and Prince Golf and Beach Resort is perched right on the beach and is our top choice for staying on the island. In fact, The King and Prince is the only beachfront hotel on the island.
There are several types of accommodations to choose from, including oceanfront beach villas and private guesthouses.
Whether you choose to play in the ocean, relax on the beach, or relax poolside soaking in the sun and breathtaking views, The King and Prince has you covered.
The King and Prince is steeped in history, starting with its humble beginning in 1935 as a seaside dance club. The oceanfront hotel opened in 1941. During the World War II years, the hotel became a naval coast-watching station and training facility. The hotel reopened in 1947 and has undergone several extensive renovations since then.
From the moment you step through the front doors, you are family. A cozy and inviting fireplace, just steps from the ECHO bar, is a popular gathering spot. I love sitting in front of the fire in the early winter months, sipping a Peach on the Beach handcrafted cocktail.
Anytime is a good time to visit St. Simons. I have visited St. Simons during all four seasons of the year, and I prefer to visit in the late fall or early winter. I like the islands uncrowded feel during this time of the year and getting an opportunity to chat with the locals.
No matter when you visit St. Simons, you will not be disappointed.
