Where To Stay In Stockholm

Kungsholmen Where To Stay Outside Of Stockholm

Tips for your first visit to Stockholm! [Stockholm, Sweden attractions]

Just west of Gamla Stan and central Stockholm is Kungsholmen, an island where youll find Stockholms City Hall. Several parks dot the island, including Rålambshov Park, which has a beach and trails through the woods. In the summer, you can attend outdoor theater performances here.

The nearby Norr Mälarstrand waterfront promenade is a fun area in the summer, when boats become live music venues. If you prefer a quieter neighborhood that maintains easy access to the hub of the city, Kungsholmen is an excellent choice.

Best Neighborhood For Cafes/shopping: Sdermalm

Södermalm is the artistic heart of Stockholm. Youll find all sorts of shops and boutiques here, as well as some great cafés. Its generally a bit more affordable and is a favorite district of locals. Its also the area of Stockholm made popular by the Millennium Series .

Great area for: ABBA Museum Vasa Museum Green Space & Nature

Djurgården is the greenest of all the islands, perfect for dreamy walks that make you forget youre in a capital city. It also houses Skansen, a living museum with old-style shops and Scandinavian animals, and several more of the citys best museums. The ferry from Slussen will drop you off outside Gröna Lund, a theme park which puts on live music shows and dance nights through the summer. Best-suited to families or museum junkies though there isnt a lot of choice here in terms of accommodation.

Nearby Skeppsholmen, a tiny island with more than its fair share of museums, has a better selection of hotels and hostels, and you can easily take the ferry between here and Djurgården.

Do Not Make The Mistake To Book A Room In City Lodge

Do not make the mistake to book a room in City Lodge. I can recommend City Hostel though. The Lodge is a total nightmare, while the other one is pretty good. What I loved most in Stockholm is that in the entire city the buildings are very very nice. There is a great architecture and when it does not rain the town looks so alive, it is colorful. The prices are a bit cheaper than In Copenhagen for instance, so being used to those, I found Stockholm ok. Overall I really liked that city. There are also quite many places to have fun, bars and clubs.

Stockholms Best Areas To Stay

When I first moved to Stockholm, the first thing I noticed was just how much water there was. As my plane began its descent, we were treated to spectacular views of the frozen-over lakes.

Fourteen islands make up the city, and to the east you have the archipelago, formed of almost 40,000 more islands scattered across the sea. As well as being beautiful, the water plays a central role in Stockholmers lives. Its so clean that in summer, you can join the crowds that flock to the citys beaches and jump into the lakes for a swim, while winter sees locals walking or even skating on the thick ice join them if you dare!

Stockholms neighbourhoods more or less coincide with the different islands within the city, each with its own distinct identity, sights and gems to discover. Its a small but vibrant city, so I recommend staying as centrally as possible in order to reach most of the main sights on foot. And if you get bored of walking, a boat trip offers the chance to see the city from a different perspective, whether you have enough time to take a cruise through the vast archipelago or simply hop on the seven-minute ferry between two tourist hotspots, Gamla Stan and Djurgarden.
