Why You Want To Visit
I spent twelve days in Australia in May, and it’s easy to see why people fall in love with this beautiful, friendly country. Though this was the 33rd country I’ve visited, it’s at the top of my list for so many reasons.
Being able to speak the same language while also getting a different cultural experience was one of the top reasons I loved Australia. The people were so welcoming.
The food is always important to me and it did not disappoint. Seafood and meat lovers alike will be thrilled, but there were delicious vegan options on every menu, too.
And the desserts – don’t get me started! You have to try that Strawberry Watermelon Cake from Black Star Pastry. It is as good as it looks!
I explored not-to-miss foods with my new friends, Parth Bajaj from Mumbai and Remi from Tokyo, and we had so much fun!
Sydney is such a beautiful city. As it’s the largest city in all of Australia, there’s obviously so much to see. I really only had one afternoon to explore as I was attending a conference, but I still managed to do a lot.
We knocked out a list of the can’t miss foods, saw the Sydney Opera House, Opera Bar, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Chinatown, Sydney Town Hall, and more, all in a few hours!
The key to being able to explore a city is having a comfortable place to lay your head at the end of the day. It also helps if you’re staying close to the popular areas.
Best Hostel In Sydney: Wake Up Sydney Central
Wake up! Central Sydney Hostel is one of the best backpacker accommodations and cheapest hostels in the city. With plenty of great amenities, such as a massive common room, workspaces for digital nomads, a fully equipped kitchen and an on-site cafe, youll be having the time of your life here. The location is, just as the name says, right by Central Station, meaning that youll get around without any problems. Loads of attractions are pretty much right in front of your doorstep as well.

This amazing studio is located just a couple of minutes from the beach. While its one of the more affordable rentals in Bondi, it still offers everything you could wish for. Darling Harbour
Not necessarily our first pick when it comes to choosing where to stay in Darling Harbour, weve decided to re-think our initial opinion and give this an official thumbs up. With the brand spankinSofitel Darling Harbour and recently announced W Hotel, plus the brand new dining precinct Steam Mill Lane, Darling Harbour is back on our radar in a big way.
Barangaroo
The brand spankin new Barangaroo just keeps on getting better and better. From the boutiques and the restaurants, to the arts and culture scene, theres always something to do or see. Plus, its super central location means you can easily walk anywhere in the bustling CBD. Perfect for business travellers, if youd rather keep your distance from the suits, plant yourself at neighbouring suburb, The Rocks with old school charm and plenty of cosy pubs that were made for day drinking.

If you like to be in the middle of everything on your holidays, one of the best neighbourhoods to stay in Sydney is the Central Business District.
As the focal-point of the citys financial area, George Street is a mix of high skyscrapers and old colonial buildings, international banks and classy shopping malls operating alongside local shops, markets, bars, restaurants, and visitor attractions.
Although everywhere in the area is easily walkable, taxis, public transport, and metro stations are plentiful for those who want to explore further afield.
A young, vibrant population of hard working thirty-somethings make up 80% of the population of Sydneys central business district, living in the many high rise apartment complexes around the area.
For visitors, accommodation is also plentiful, with high-end 5-star hotels, budget 2-star hotels, and dormitory and pod type backpacker hostels.
For the culture vultures, there are a host of venues to visit. The Art Gallery of New South Wales regularly hosts international touring exhibitions, as well as lectures, screenings, and concerts.
The Hyde Park Barracks Museum was designed by a convict architect, and provides an eye-opening insight into grim colonial life. It also highlights the penal colonys expansion, and its effect on Australias indigenous peoples.

Milsons Point
A stones throw away from North Sydney, Milsons Point gives you the chance to rub shoulders with the Prime Minister at Kirribilli House. Smack bang next to Luna Park, enjoy harbour views without the crowds and see central Sydney from the other side of The Bridge.
Mosman
Mosman is perfect for families or those staying in town for longer than two weeks. Only 10 minutes drive from the CBD, set up camp in a leafy street and get lost oo-ing and ah-ing at all the hot property. The best part? Taronga Zoo is just down the roadwere telling you now it has one of the best views in Sydney. Oh, and the cute to boot animals arent bad either.
Balmoral Beach
Balmoral is one of the most recognisable harbour beaches in Sydney. Quiet during the week and bustling on the weekends, its ideal for those who like being active with plenty of bushwalks and water sports. Most locals start their day with an ocean swim, followed by a coffee at The Boathouse.

Fun Things To Do In Sydney
Sydney Harbour Bridge There are many places in Sydney that offer gorgeous views of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge but if you want to get up close and personal, you can climb it. Once you reach the top you are rewarded with an eagle eye view of Sydney. This is a memorable experience for those who aren’t afraid of heights! Darling Harbour Darling Harbour is home to restaurants, bars, nightlife and the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Close to Sydney CBD but removed enough to block out the hustle and bustle. For a real thrill and something different, hop on a jet boat ride. See all the sights of the harbour from the water while enjoying the thrill of a jet boat. Be prepared to get wet!
Kings Cross Neighbourhood Where To Stay In Sydney On A Budget
Sydneys Kings Cross neighbourhood has undergone a serious change in the last few years. Home to the citys infamous red-light district, recent years have seen a number of trendy cafes and boutique pop-ups move into the neighbourhood.
Although it still retains much of its original grit and attitude, Kings Cross is one of the citys up and coming districts.
Kings Cross is also the best place to stay in Sydney for travellers on a budget. Here youll find a number of budget hostels and hotels as well as a few mid-range hotels. Here youre within walking distance of great public transport options, so in just a few minutes you can be walking around the Sydney Opera House, Circular Quay and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It also makes getting to and from Sydney airport super easy.

Best Hotel In The Cbd: Park Regis City Centre

Kings Cross Sydneys Area Of Ill
Sitting a couple of kilometres to the east of Sydneys central business district, its fair to say Kings Cross has experienced its share of highs and lows in its 190 year history.
Back in the early 1800s, then known as Woolloomooloo Hill, the area was developed by well-heeled local businessmen who turned it into an affluent residential area with extravagant mansions, and prestigious colonial residences.
For Queen Victorias diamond jubilee in the 1890s, the name was changed to Queens Cross before, in 1905, it became known as Kings Cross. As the demographics began to change, so too did the fortunes of Kings Cross.
As the nearby naval base got busier, especially after WW II, the area saw a big increase in spit-and-sawdust bars, dives, sex shops, strip clubs, brothels and prostitution.
Before long, the Kings Cross reputation as Australias premier red-light district was perpetuated in newspapers and travel brochures worldwide.
Over the last 25 years however, the pendulum has begun to swing back, with new housing developments being built. Property in the residential area is again becoming popular with Sydneys young, hard working professionals, and fashionable coffee shops and bars, chic boutiques, and trendy restaurants are opening up.
Yes the old-style bars and strip clubs are still there, but theyre finding it increasingly difficult to compete in the new-look, vibrant Kings Cross.

If you wonder where to stay in Sydney CBD, then QT Sydney offers you a day spa, café, bar, and restaurant. It is located in the historic Gowings Department Store and very close to the State Theatre.

Bounce Sydney
Often topping lists of the best hostels in Sydney, Bounce offers spacious, clean facilities at backpacker prices. If youre of a younger generation and want to be around similar people, Manly may just be the place for you. However, its not just backpackers that enjoy staying in Manly often, older travellers find it a great springboard to both explore Sydneys northern beaches and reach the city via ferry.

How Many Days Do You Need In Sydney
Are you wondering how many days are needed to explore Sydney?
You can spend as little as 2 days in Sydney or as much as a week, there is always something to see and do and you surely won’t get bored!
However, I find 4 or 5 days are ideal, this way you can enjoy different parts of the city, head out to Bondi Beach or take the ferry to visit Manly. You could even go on a day trip to the nearby Blue Mountains or head to the Royal National Park with its famous Figure 8 Pools on your 5th day.
Where To Stay For Nightlife: Kings Cross
Located North of Paddington and east of the downtown core, Kings Cross is another party district for any night owls looking to have fun. Its wild and cheap, and youll find a good mix of both backpackers and locals here. The famous World Bar is where most of the action happens . If youre not a backpacker or not looking to party, this probably wont be the place you want to stay during your visit.
Best Places to Stay in Kings Cross
I really like quite a few of these areas, so maybe youll want to experience several neighborhoods stay in town several nights, then move to Bondi Beach or Coogee to get a feel for the surf. To me, thats the best of both worlds.
