Where To Stay In Tampa Beach

Tampa Beach: Davis Island Beach

Top 10 Places To Stay In The Tampa Bay Area! (As of 2021)

Davis Island was constructed by filling two small natural islands with mud that was scooped from Tampa Bay in the 1920s. The island was named after local resident and developer, D.P. Davis. His vision was to create a vacation community with a variety of amenities such as hotels, an airport, and golf courses. The development never quite reached the level of the developers dream, but the beaches remain a popular vacation destination for Tampa residents. The beach is often crowded with anchored boats so its not the best choice for swimming. Visitors come to relax in the sun, have a picnic, and enjoy the off-leash dog area. There is a boat ramp for launching canoes and other boats. Things to Do in Tampa

Beaches Near Tampa: Egmont Key State Park

5 reasons to visit Tampa Bay, FL this Fall or Winter

Egmont Key State Park is a state park located on Egmont Key, which primarily exists as a wildlife refuge. The park has an interesting history, some remnants of which can still be seen on the island, including a historic lighthouse that was built in 1858. The island housed captured Seminoles during the 19th century and later served as a base for the Union Navy. Fort Dade was constructed on the island in 1898 and can still be seen today. The island is quite remote and has virtually no amenities. There is no drinking water available, so be sure to pack plenty of supplies including food, water, and sunscreen. In addition to seeing the interesting historic sites and walking the trails, visitors enjoy swimming, watching wildlife, picnicking on the beach, and fishing.

Things To Do In Ybor City

Drive a couple of minutes to Ybor City, and youll find yourself in an area with a whole different personality. Tampa is home to many of Hispanic descent, and theyre here thanks to Ybor. Ybor is famous for its Cuban heritage and one of the things to do there is to visit the museum that will tell you all about its history. Or, if youre not interested in museums, you can always partake in some of the culture that still lives in Ybor.

Cuban sandwiches are the obvious answer, but even more interesting are the Cuban cigars, which are rolled right in front of your eyes. So if you are a smoker you just must try the smell of Cuba, for it, you will need to have a real Cuban cigar such as Cohiba Robustos. These cigars are for sale in the shops, as well as in various clubs around Ybor and Downtown Tampa.

Of course, much like Downtown Tampa, Ybor is home to all sorts of stores and restaurants. Again, pick some interesting places to visit in Tampa and have fun! You can follow the hipsters, the trend-setters, the Goths, or any other kind of stereotype that will show you a new surprise. Interested in vintage duds? La France is a store full of the most beautiful clothes, shoes, jewelry, and knick-knacks. Or, if youre more interested in a dogs skull, head on over to Dysfunctional Grace Art for some Gothic products.

Tampa St Pete Clearwater

14 Prettiest Beaches in Tampa Florida

Hi! We will be spending 2 nights in the area before cruising out of Tampa this summer. Would like to “beach it” those two days. Which should we choose to stay in, Tampa, Clearwater, or St Pete? Which beaches are the best? We are two “young” 60-somethings who like to have fun! Any suggestions as to where to stay? Prefer not too expensive, though on or near the beach would be nice. It doesn’t have to be posh, though. Any “must sees”? Thanks in advance!

Well Tampa doesn’t have beaches so you can rule that out. I would suggest Treasure Island as a little more lively than St Pete Beach.

St. Pete Beach is a wonderful beach town

St. Pete Beach will be busier than Treasure Island, so it depends what you’re looking for. St. Pete Beach has a younger crowd since there are a number of beach bars located on the beach, I am not saying it’s a crazy party town with nothing but young kids, it is balanced well with all ages. Jimmy B’s and Toasted Monkey have live music every night and during the day on the weekends, if I am looking to go out and enjoy a beach day, I prefer St. Pete Beach. There are plenty of restaurants to walk to and a line of beach bars to stop in at for a drink or to listen to music. I would look into Bon-Aire, it’s not as expensive as the hotels, it’s smaller and clean. It has a great tiki bar in the back.

Like posted earlier, you won’t have any beaches in Tampa – it’s on the bay, so the most you’ll get is a nice view of the water and that’s about it.

Downtown Tampa Best Amenities In Town

At the top of Hillsborough Bay, downtown is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Tampa for both living and finding fun local activities. While it is mainly commercial space, people who want to live there will find a handful of downtown Tampa housing options that include apartments, condos, and a few homes along the outer edges of town.

Centrally located, downtown is arguably the most amenity-packed area in Tampa with amazing places like the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, a 4,327-seat theatre where you can catch shows, dances, and classy opera concerts. Built in 1995, the Florida Aquarium is one of the most popular places in downtown Tampa, housing over 14,000 unique marine animals. The Tampa Convention Center can also be found downtown and stands as a hub for numerous events all year long.

Best Area To Stay In Tampa

What is the best area to stay in while in the Tampa area? In another post here on TA, someone states that Tampa isn’t really a “destination” area, but we were looking to maybe spend four days there before heading down to Sarasota. Would we do better to stay all or part of the time in one of the beach towns? What is of interest to see in the Tampa area ? Is Tarpon Springs worth a day trip? Any really good nature attractions? Any interesting shopping areas or stores other than malls?

I would have to agree with the other post in that the city of Tampa is not really a destination area, especially if you’re not interested in Busch Gardens. Perhaps you can spend a couple days in Tampa and a couple days in Clearwater or St. Pete.

A few suggestions for Tampa with a slant towards nature: kayaking/canoeing on the Hillsborough River, dolphin cruise at the Florida Aquarium, Big Cat Rescue, Lettuce Lake Park or Flatwoods Park. In the St. Pete/Clearwater area, Ft. DeSoto Park or the Pinellas Trail.

Tarpon Springs is worth a visit, but I’m not sure you’ll be able to find a full day’s worth of entertainment. It’s only about half an hour’s drive from Clearwater, so perhaps an afternoon trip from there would be more apt.

Tour the H. B. Plant museum at the University of Tampa, Plant Hall. In the 1890’s Henry Plant built the railroad to Tampa and built a fabulous railroad hotel which is now Plant Hall at UT. Drive along Bayshore Blvd. to Ballast Point Park.
