Other Than The Landscape It Did Not Hold Much Interest For

other than the landscape, it did not hold much interest for us. the creamery tour was fun, but was about it. Not many restaurants or places to stay which limits the amount of time the average traveler can stay. While a lovely “pass thru” town, one day is probably all you need. Unless you want to spend alot on a room for the night, suggest that you stay at one of the coastal towns when you get ready to turn in for the night.

Frequently Asked Questions And Answers

What are people saying about hotels near Tillamook, OR?

This is a review for hotels near Tillamook, OR:

“This hotel is “okay”. Metal bed frame squeaks everytime you move. Memory foam mattress that you sink into so much you get stuck and you end up waking up just trying to turn over. No coffee maker in room? No clock? Sure hope they go back to a regular breakfast rather than having to preorder and set an appointment to go and get breakfast the next morning. Other than that it wasn’t too bad and was relatively clean.”

Best Time To Visit The Oregon Coast

Tillamook Rock Oregon Coast

Most people flock to the Oregon coast during the summer months, especially late summer. At this time of year, the chance of rain is low and its sunny or partly cloudy almost every day.

However, you should expect chilly mornings and evenings. The afternoons on the coast are often breezy, so dress appropriately. Do not expect to want to swim or lay on the beach in a bikini.

The temperature of the water off the Oregon coast doesnt change throughout the year and usually remains at a frigid 55°F . In late summer, youll have a higher chance of encountering weather that warrants swimming in the ocean, however, these days are not common on the Oregon coast.

A summer day on the Oregon coast, while not hot like California, is pleasantly warm and comfortable. Come prepared with a light jacket, or a rain jacket to help keep warm against a breeze. The Oregon coast is known for its unpredictable bouts of rain.

Wear shoes that youre comfortable getting a little wet, sandy, and muddy if youre planning to hike along the cliffs in southern Oregon. Even though it might not feel warm, remember to wear sunscreen as you can still easily burn on the Oregon coast during summer.

If you arent able to visit during the summer, a 3 to 5 day Oregon coast road trip is still within reach. As a travel tip from locals, consider visiting the southern Oregon coast in peak winter to watch massive waves crash on the cliffs. Photographers come from all over to capture these incredible waves.

Thors Well

Chances are good that youve come across Thors Well as youve been researching your Oregon coast road trip. Its a natural hole in the rock along the coastline that appears to be draining into the sea.

Researchers propose the hole began as a sea cave dug out by waves and is most likely 20 feet deep. Try to pay Thors Well a visit during high tide as this is when it looks the most impressive, but make sure to stay back from the edge.

While an impressive site to see, Thors Well can quickly sweep visitors off their feet and be dangerous.

Oregon Dunes

The Oregon Dunes run along the coast for about 40 miles between Florence and Coos Bay. The dunes were created when the tide, winds, and waves pushed sand inland, creating the rolling hills seen today. Visitors can explore the dunes by foot or rent an ATV.

What Is The Best Oregon Coast Town To Live

If you are considering moving to the Oregon coast, the criteria for choosing the best town to live in might be far different than the best vacation destination.

When making this decision, you need to consider your personal preferences as well as what you would like out of the area you will call home.

Are you looking for a larger city with more things to do, or are you looking for a secluded patch of land to disconnect and unwind? Other things to consider are job opportunities in the area, as well as the cost of living.

If it were up to me, I would choose to live in Brookings, Oregon before any other coast town. Why? Well, the exploration opportunities are endless along this stretch of the Pacific and its a lot cheaper than living near Portland.

Visit The Tillamook Cheese Factory

One of the most popular things to do in Tillamook is to visit the Tillamook Creamery. The well-known creamery dishes out 160,000+ pounds of cheese every single day. Take the self-guided tour where you can learn about their cheese making process, history of the company, and sample some of the food yourself.

Tillamook is a great stop along the coast but how long should you allocate to the visit? That depends on your overall itinerary, of course. If youre traveling along the coast looking for stops, you could just spend an hour at the creamery, enjoy sampling the cheeses and ice cream and move on. Thats what we did on our first trip to the area.

If you find any of the attractions mentioned here interesting, you could try and allocate half-a-day to this Oregon location to explore that place. And finally, you could center your Oregon Coast vacation around this area of the coast, in which case, Tillamook could take up to 2-3 days of slow-paced exploration.

Where To Stay In Tillamook Oregon

If you are lucky enough to be able to stay for more than a day in Tillamook, these are my suggestions on where to stay. I have included links to the locations, they are from my favorite place to make reservations

The Ashley Inn of Tillamook The Inn is centrally located and has a spa on site. It is the best-rated hotel in the area and if you are traveling with a furry friend, this location is pet-friendly.

Shilo Inn Suites Tillamook If you are wanting something a little more romantic, this is the place for you. There is an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, a restaurant with a full bar on site, and is highly recommended by couples.

The Best Option In Tillamook

My husband and I spent two nights at the Ashley Inn. We chose a suite, which was spacious and comfortable. The room had been remodeled recently, and the furnishings were clean and new. The bathroom and sitting area, in particular, were well designed and roomy. We appreciated the cleanliness of our room and of the hotel overall. We also appreciated the Covid precautions, including signs reminding guests to wear masks in all public spaces. We felt very safe at the hotel. This property is listed as a two-star hotel, but with a few small improvements it could easily become a three-star property. Providing in-room coffee service and/or self-serve coffee in the lobby is generally standard for most properties and would be a welcome addition here. In-room coffee makers could even be provided upon request for those guests who want them. Offering local channels on the TV is also recommended. The Roku TV had many channels but nothing to allow us to watch local news.Several other reviewers have commented about a smell in the rooms. I noticed this, too. It remained even after I’d left the window open for several hours. I believe the odor was a product of something that was done during the renovation, so hopefully this will fade over time. Aside from this, the room and hotel were quite nice, and I would be happy to stay at the Ashley Inn again.
