Within minutes from the Grand Canyon. There is a gas station and several other hotels and markets around. Cute small town. Plan to get there before it gets dark. Road is nice but dark at night and it was so cold with ice on the roads. I went after Christmas and it was decorated nicely. Very welcoming.

El Tovar is a historic lodge in the National Park and a nice place to have a meal but there’s really no point in worrying about “views” from any of the dining rooms at the Canyon, you really need to be outside for those. Make reservations at El Tovar and plan for dinner well before or after sunset and enjoy the sunset at one of the viewpoints on the rim.
If you are not a guest at one of the park lodges, the earliest you can book for El Tovar is 30 days in advance. Park lodging guests can book earlier, so you may not get your date or your preferred time, depending on when you will be there. Good luck.
Arizona Room next to Bright Angel is another option but they don’t take reservations.

The tiny town of Tusayan offers the closest hotels to outside Grand Canyon National Park. Located 1.5 miles south of the Grand Canyons South Entrance Station, Tusayan is sandwiched between Grand Canyon to the north and the Kaibab National Forest to the south. Its the only private property anywhere near the South Rims popular sights. As such, Tusayan revolves entirely around Grand Canyon tourism, and its commercial district along highway 64 is filled with hotels, restaurants and the areas only gas station. Just south of the commercial district is Grand Canyon Airport, which offers scenic flights and private planes. Note: From Tusayan to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center its about a 15-minute drive.
