  • At the Hotel Guru we do love a private hotel, and we have an especially soft spot for those filled with the collections of their owners. And the Metropole is a really charming example, with 67 rooms dotted with cherished corkscrews, crucifixes, porcelain teapots, fans, and all sorts of interesting curios. Its on the Riva, overlooking the lagoon, has a Michelin starred restaurant, a velvet-hung salone, where they cover the tables in cakes at teatime, and a shady garden. The rooms come in a range of styles, so theres bound to be something memorable to suit you.

Where To Stay In Venice With Car

  • near Piazzale Roma the closest point to the tourist attractions
  • Mestre the mainland of Venice

Mestre is the mainland of Venice. Youll find a lot of affordable parking options, 2-3 times cheaper than the ones at Piazzale Roma.

However, the biggest disadvantage is that you have to spend extra time to get to the heart of Venezia. Its about 15-20min to Piazzale Roma and from there about a 20-30min walk to the main attractions. And this time doesnt include getting to the bus stop and waiting for public transport. The hotels are a lot cheaper, however, there are fewer options in comparison to the island of Venezia.

How Far Is Mestre From Venice City

Mestre is very well connected to Venezia by regular trams and buses. There is even a night bus. Yet, keep in mind that youll need probably about 40-60min to get to the major tourist attractions.

Mestre is not a great option to stay if you have more than one day in Venice. Id recommend paying more for a hotel on the island and dont waste so much time in transportation.

Comfy hotel right next to Mestre train station. An ideal location for travelling to Venice and the airport. The bus station is right outside the hotel. Thus, you can reach Piazzale Roma in less than 15min. Easy access by car, as the highway exit is not far.Why book convenient location next to Mestre train station, restaurant, public parking nearby

Best Western Tritone is one of the best hotels in Mestre. Its practically located across the street from Mestre train station. Plus, there is a private parking lot next to the hotel. Why book next to Mestre train station, private parking nearby, 24-hour front desk, good breakfast

Living Outdoors Along Americas Most Famous Beach Is Dirty Difficult And Dangerous

Story by Matthew Rodriguez | Photos by Maria Martin

Aaron Woody Lipke has been living at the beach since September 2017

The first year is the hardest, Aaron Woody Lipke says of being homeless in Venice.

You are new to the scene. People dont trust you. People dont know who you are. They see a joker when youre actually a king, he tells me. Slowly but surely you earn their trust.

Lipke, who always wears a hat to conceal his thinning hair, lives next to the Venice Beach Basketball Courts in a tent that contains his drawings of naked women, poetry hes written and everything else he owns. Hes gotten used to seeing apprehension or disdain on the faces of passersby, and thats probably the initial look I gave him, too. I hesitated to shake hands with him because of his disheveled appearance. Its safer to assume the worst.

But now I see Lipke, who worked as a bike messenger in San Francisco before a messy divorce sent his life on a spiral toward Venice Beach, as a guy trying to make it through tough times one of 52,765 homeless people throughout Los Angeles County and 975 in Venice alone, according to last years official homeless count.

For each of them, simply staying alive can be a daily challenge. According to an April report by Kaiser Health News, coroner records show that 3,612 homeless people died in L.A. County from 2014 to 2018, the average age of the deceased being 51 for men and just 48 for women.

Hang Out On The Quad At The Kinney:

The heart of the hotel, lovingly dubbed The Quad is the main hangout spot for guests. Im not going to lie, it was pretty cool. It feels very L.A. Catch some sun on the lawn chairs, play some ping pong, or take a dip in the pool.

My favorite part? They happened to be hosting a Kinney Movie Night during our stay. The team brought out blankets and popcorn, and we sat by the fire and watched a movie. It was one of the highlights of our trip!

Visiting The Santa Monica Boulevard And Pier

All I wanna do is have some funI got a feeling Im not the only oneAll I wanna do is have some funI got a feeling Im not the only oneAll I wanna do is have some funUntil the sun comes up overSanta Monica Boulevard

Sheryl Crow had a hit with All I wanna do in 1992 with this song about the Santa Monica Boulevard.

Since then, anytime I think about it the song comes to mind, and here we are now. Im strolling down Santa Monica Boulevard, humming the tune and taking in the atmosphere.

After our epic drive from Vegas to Los Angeles, our prize was a glorious sunset over the Santa Monica pier. Its a little surreal seeing the sun go down over the water in the evening, the reverse of what we experience in the eastern states of Australia .

Its Spring Break in America so everyone here has that holiday vibe about them. The alfresco bars on the boulevard are filling up whilst other people can still be seen on the beach making the most of the last remaining light.

The Santa Monica Pier is busy with couples, families, and teenagers all laughing and chatting whilst enjoying the mild weather and carnival atmosphere. A lot of the buildings on the Pier have a lovely art deco feel. The Hippodrome was actually built in 1916.

Now it houses the historic carousel and little children can be heard giggling as they ride the hand-carved horses. Nearby there is a vintage soda fountain which also adds to the feeling of the period.

Shutters On The Beach High End Couples Luxury Accommodation

Shutters on the Beach is a standout, luxury accommodation on the beach at Santa Monica. There is literally nothing between you and the sand! I noticed the 5 star Hotel the first time we ventured onto the beach, and I was instantly envious of everyone staying there.

I can honestly say, there is no better location in Santa Monica, and the style of this property is like no other in the area. The hotel has an elegant opulence, while still maintaining a beach house feel.

The facilities include a day spa and three restaurants, all with beautiful views of the ocean. Alas, we didnt stay at Shutters on the Beach, but we did enjoy a meal at one of their restaurants which only made me want to stay here more.

Su Casa at Venice Budget Couples

I admired this property during our many strolls along the Ocean Front Walk between Santa Monica and Venice Beach. I never imagined the rates would be so reasonable.

I thought the people sitting in the sandy courtyard must have been rockstars in between gigs. The apartments are literally on the sand. I chose the Su Casa because they are not located in the busiest section of Venice Beach, so I think it would still be reasonably peaceful if you wanted to stop partying.

Venice Breeze Suites Mid Range Couples

This is another block of holiday let apartments, which we admired from the beach. The property has been renovated, and the apartments are modern. Theres a rooftop terrace we noticed with a BBQ area that guests were using.

Hollywood Where To Stay In Los Angeles For The First Time

Hollywood is definitely one of the BEST areas to stay in Los Angeles for people who are experiencing this city for the first time! Why? Besides being extremely famous, Hollywood has something for everyone people watching, iconic attractions, incredible food places and more!

From the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame to the picture-perfect Hollywood sign, from the well-known Graumans Chinese Theatre or the Universal Studios Hollywood to the scenic Hollywood Boulevard or Griffith Park youll find all these in this amazing district, and more!

Hollywood is very safe and its also FULL of amazing restaurants, cafes, pubs and, of course, clubs for all tastes and budgets out there. Im sure you associate the word Hollywood with a luxurious lifestyle, but Ill let you know that, although super beautiful, this part of the city is not as glamorous as in the movies, and you might be surprised to find out that there are also some very good budget accommodations in this area!

Hotel Carmel Budget Family Accommodation On 3rd Street

5 FUN Things to do in VENICE BEACH, California: Vacation Travel Guide

We stayed for three nights at the Hotel Carmel with the children. Its older style building with original 1920 features and lots of charm. The Hotel Carmel is a budget hotel, but I consider it a great find. The tariff included a lovely continental breakfast served in the lobby.

The hotel is located on the 3rd Street Promenade which is only one block from the beach and right in the middle of shops and restaurants. We didnt need the car at all during our stay. All the staff were fantastic. Going past this for value and convenience would be hard.

Stay In One One Venices Palazzos

  • Overlooking the Basilica de Santa Maria della Salute in Dorsoduro, the Ca Maria Adele is an elegant 16th century palazzo, with richly decorated interiors harking back to an era of Venetian decadence. This is the sort of hotel with its own canal entrance. The more richly decorated rooms are the five themed suites, where the antiques and fabrics are definitely opulent, while the other seven rooms are simpler, but still beautiful. Breakfast is as luxurious as the decor.
  • At the opposite end of the design scale is the Ca’ Pisani, a muted pink, 16th century palazzo which was converted into Venices first design hotel, bucking the interiors trend of excess. Its 29 rooms and suites have an Art Deco flavour, and theres a basement restaurant where breakfast and light meals are served.
