Th District Wieden Best Neighborhood To Stay In Vienna
The Fourth District is centered around the famous Karlskirche, and Karlsplatz, a popular uni hangout. This district is all about music, and has a much more hip vibe than some of the stuffier or more touristy areas of Vienna, which is why i think its onen of the best neighborhoods in Vienna. Wieden is home to the large Naschmarkt, the Musikverein concert hall, and the Vienna State Opera. There are upscale residential areas in Wieden also, which again means youll have many shops and restaurants to choose from.
If you plan to use public transportation to get around, check that your accommodations are within easy access, as some Wieden properties may be a bit further than youd care to walk frequently.

Pro Tip: Save With A Vienna City Pass Or City Card
If youre staying in Vienna for at least a few days, and plan to see the citys main tourist attractions, there are two great options to save you time and money.
Innere Stadt Where To Stay In Vienna Your First Time
Innere Stadt is the most central neighbourhood in Vienna, and where most of the historical sights and luxury hotels are located. It is your best option if you are visiting the city for the first time, as you will be close to everything and in the centre of the action. It is surrounded by the Ringstrasse, which used to be the old citys wall.
The Hofburg, which used to be the Habsburg family main residence until 1918, can be visited in the Innere Stadt. Today, it serves as the residence of the president of Austria and the seat of government, but the Imperial apartments are open to the public.
While in the Innere Stadt, make sure to stop by the Sacher Hotel. While you may not have the budget to stay in this luxurious hotel, make sure to have a slice of Austrias most famous dessert, the Sacher Torte. The recipe has remained the same since 1832 and has been kept secret ever since.

Visit A Christmas Market
This is why most people visit in the first place. Viennas numerous Christmas markets open in mid- to late November and make you believe the worlds a better place than news broadcasts might suggest.
It feels like being wrapped in a cosy blanket before a roaring fireplace, with a steaming mug of something warm and the company of good friends.
Warning: if youre on a diet, you may want to stay away. The typical market has made culinary temptation an art form. Imagine the sugar fairy got loose, made a pact with the chocolate fairy, then abandoned all reason and accountability.
Typical sweet treats include chocolate-covered fruit, roasted & caramelised nuts, lebkuchen, innumerable pastries, and various varieties of pretzel.
Nd District Leopoldstadt Where To Stay In Vienna For On A Budget
Viennas second district is on an island between the Danube Canal and the Danube River. Close to the city center via a quick subway ride, but much quieter and more affordable than staying in the first district. Many Vienna residents live here, over 100,000 in fact, which means there are also a lot of stores, restaurants and pubs.
With fewer tourist attractions, aside from the famous ferris wheel, be prepared to spend some time commuting to other parts of the city. There are also some dodgy parts of Leopoldstadt, so just beware and carefully read reviews before deciding where to stay.

Am Hof Christmas Market
One night, Tom and I just wandered through the streets of Vienna to see where we ended up. The Am Hof Christmas market turned out to be a lovely surprise. It felt very local and we followed our noses from stall to stall. The jovial spirit was palpable despite the freezing temperatures. It felt like it had more tables to stand at, so it was easier to enjoy the treats. Right around the corner is the Freyung market, which also offers tasty punch and snacks.

Get to know the city and stay here to see it in its authentic ways of living. Tucked in a historic building, you will most likely feel like a local seeing the city authentically. Its quite the charming home with the flowers displayed in the bedrooms and the extra blankets for those cold nights we sometimes encounter here in Austria. The room is just above lots of local pubs and restaurants for those who enjoy the nightlife. If you are down to do some sightseeing, lots of the main attractions are within walking distance. Whether you are travelling solo or with a couple of friends, you cant beat the price of staying here. It sleeps 4 without squishing you all in a confined space.

Staying In The 10th District Favoriten
In a nutshell: The area around the main station in Favoriten has many new hotels to offer and is ideally located for train travelers.
Favoriten, the 10th district, is the most populated district in Vienna and is not really known as a tourist destination. Recently, however, the brand new Vienna Central Station was completed at the extreme northern tip of Favoriten.
A small, completely new city quarter has sprung up around the station, which also features a few hotels. Since all the buildings here are brand-new, of course that means the hotels are too.
The pretty 4th district starts just one street further along. It doesnt take long to get to the most important sights of Vienna from there.
Pros of staying in the 10th district
- Near the train station. The hotels are perfectly located for train travelers.
- Brand new. The hotels have all opened up fairly recently and are in mint condition.
- Cheap. You can get much better value for money here than in many other districts in Vienna.
Cons of staying in the 10th district
- Distance to city center. The inner city is a little further away.
- Location. The district itself isnt really worth visiting, but the much more interesting 4th district starts just a street further down.
Staying In The 4th District Wieden
In a nutshell: The 4th district is close to the main attractions of the city and offers many options for shopping, eating, and going out. In our opinion, its the perfect mix for a visit to Vienna!
Wieden, the 4th district, is a small district south of the city center. The 4th district is conveniently located between Viennas central railway station and the first district.
The Naschmarkt in the 5th district and the Belvedere in the 3rd district are close by too.
Wieder also has many nice small bars and restaurants and plenty of shopping options, especially individual and smaller shops.
Pros of staying in the 4th district
- Good location. Perfect location between the main station and most attractions.
- Well connected. There are trams and subways going to all the other districts.
- Lots of great restaurants and bars. The 4th district has excellent dining options and bars.
Cons of staying in the 4th district
- Outside the center. The 4th district is located to the west of the city center.
- Few hotels. The selection of hotels in the 4th district isnt all that great.

Visit The Giant Christmas Bow
Whilst you make your way around the Innere Stadt in Vienna there is plenty to see and do and the best way to experience central Vienna is of course on foot so you can take it all in. Located directly opposite the Vienna State Opera House is this iconic building with a giant Christmas bow, which has become a pit stop for visitors to Vienna over recent years.
Hear The Sound Of Music At A Show Or Concert
Vienna is the musical capital of the world! More famous composers have lived in Vienna than any other city. You may have heard of a few do the names Mozart and Beethoven ring a bell? Both composers are buried right here in the city of music . Beethovens funeral attracted more than 20,000 people, and he was laid to rest in a beautiful tomb just northwest of Vienna.
Mozart wasnt as lucky he was buried in an unmarked commons grave in St Marx Cemetery due to his financial struggles and debts. Today theres a marker at his gravesite which serves as a reminder that no matter how many Instagram followers you may have, you could still end up penniless in a hole in the ground. But on the bright side, you might also be world famous and have a really excellent movie made about your life. Psst: you need to watch Amadeus before your trip to Vienna!
Im a big classical music nerd I started playing cello at age 2 and just about everyone in my family is a musician! So I get REAL nerdy about this stuff. If you want to get yourself hyped, Ive got a Spotify playlist of my fave classical music pieces called Angry Classical Music, because well, I just dont like the boring, cheerful stuff. The best composers were generally tortured, miserable geniuses and they wrote their feelings into their best pieces. Ok, Ill get off my classical music soapbox.

Another Catastrophe For Some Businesses
Not all businesses are feeling so optimistic. One leading Viennese restaurant, whose owners did not want to be named, said there is not much to say other than it is a catastrophe for our industry for the fourth time now.
Theres an acknowledgement among others that while the lockdown is a blow to business, it shows that health is an important issue in Austria.
This lockdown is epidemiologically necessary, the Vienna Tourist Board tells Euronews Travel.
At the same time, it means a frustrating situation for Vienna as a tourist destination, where efforts were made throughout the year to prepare for the important winter business by also taking all necessary measures according to scientific standards.
The booking situation before Christmas this year was promising, the recovery tendencies were clearly visible.
However, the increasing demand of the last months has proven that Vienna’s international attractiveness is unbroken. We hope that international travel will be possible again from 13 December.
Visit The Belvedere Palace
Theres much more to the Belvedere than Gustav Klimts celebrated The Kiss, but if were honest, it is reason alone for visiting! The Belvedere Museum is a great insight in to Austrian art history and theres much to see and do inside the palace doors however the gardens themselves are equally as impressive.

Who Should Stay In Wieden
Wieden is easy to navigate and well located.
With a hip vibe thats still quite comfortable, Wieden is a great choice for anyone who wants to be in the city center, but away from the most touristy parts.
If you choose Wieden as the best place to stay in Vienna, youll feel like home in no time.
Travelers who want to stay in a hip urban area, and those looking for a local neighborhood feel thats close to the center, will like Wieden.
If you want a lot of green space or total peace and quiet, Wieden will probably feel too urban for you.
Stick to the Schönbrunnerstrasse / Naschmarket area of the district if youre looking for a hipster vibe.
Visit The Wintermarkt Am Riesenradplatz
Not your traditional Christmas market in Austria, the Wintermarkt am Riesenradplatz is more like a Christmas fair or festival combined with an amusement park. If youve got little ones with you, this will probably be right up their alley!
Grab dinner at the market stalls and let the kids loose on the ferris wheel, dogem cars, or flying chairs. Meanwhile live entertainment will keep the adults entertained on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Also, keep an eye out for the annual Perchten Parade a terrifying spectacle, but a memorable one!
