Best Time To Travel To Austria
If you are planning to travel to Austria from the UK, then the springtime from April to May will be the best time for you to enjoy your trip. This time, the temperature is changing and gradually turning to summer. Light rain may also occur during April. You will need to bring a raincoat and umbrella to avoid getting wet. Around April and May, there are fewer tourists, so this time you will have a lot of discount deals on services in Austria.
If you are a lover of skiing, you can go in winter from November to March. The cost of accommodation at that time will be extremely low. You can also go in this season to experience the Christmas time here and participate in the winter festivals of the locals.
The most beautiful time in Austria is from September to October because this is autumn in Austria. At this time, Austria is covered with yellow and red colour of the leaves, the mountains begin to turn orange-red, combined with the cool weather, extremely suitable for climbing enthusiasts.
It’s summer in Austria from June to August. This time, you can immerse yourself in water activities to dispel the heat of the brilliant summer. Because of that, this is the peak tourist season in Austria, so tourists are extremely crowded, prices for services are very high, and it is difficult to book a place.
Allow A Couple Of Days To Explore Vienna

If you are hoping around Europe exploring various Christmas markets, I would allow at least a few days in Vienna because there are so many different markets in the city, many with their own unique personalities and specialties.
At a minimum, I would allow two nights in Vienna but we were there for three, which helped us to mix in a few other activities to our holiday market itinerary. Our visit to the Spanish Riding School to see the famed horses practice was a standout moment of the trip.

Neubau Coolest Place To Stay In Vienna
Neubau is the coolest place to stay in Vienna. There, visitors will not find the picture-perfect imperialism of the Innere Stadt but are more likely to encounter trendy art galleries, design clothing, and unique coffee shops and restaurants. You may also take the opportunity to stay in Neubau to buy some unique vintage clothing and renew your wardrobe!
Neubau is located right next to the Museum Quarter and has the privilege to have some museums of its own. The MUMOK, for instance, is really worth a visit. It is the museum of modern art of the city and displays some of the finest contemporary art in Austria.
Finally, lets not forget that Neubau is still a great place to go for a night out. There are many bars around, and in the summer you can just go enjoy some beers and a good chat in the Museum Quarter where giant lounge chairs are laid out to relax in.

Recommended Restaurants Open On Christmas Day In Vienna
Although not all restaurants will be open in Vienna on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, I didnt struggle to find somewhere to eat, and you can always refuel at one of the citys Christmas markets. And thats not a hardship!
Here are some recommended restaurants that are open on Christmas day in Vienna.
Restaurant Plachutta, Wollzeile 38 a Vienna institution, famous for its boiled beef

Greichenbeisl, Greichengasse 9, Fleischmarkt 11 a cosy restaurant dating back to the 16th century
Bonus Vienna Christmas Market Tips
A few other tips when visiting the Christmas markets in Vienna are to pack for your trip with purchases in mind so that you leave space in your luggage to get items home safely. If you anticipate fragile purchases, maybe even pack some wrapping materials for ornaments, mugs and ceramics. In a pinch, just use your socks, scarves and shirts to bundle up your breakables.
Also, on the evening that you spend time at the Christkindlmarkt Rathausplatz, the largest and arguably most popular market in Vienna, allow time for ice skating at their very large and unique ice skating rink. It is not just a big circular rink, but rather a complex of different frozen areas. You can rent skates and lockers for your time on the ice.
After some laps around the ice, seek out warmth across the street at the Cafe Landtmann, a Viennese coffee house that dates back to the 1800s. We gave very high marks to this cafe for its hot chocolate and French press coffee, which were both perfect after a chilly night shopping and skating. One note dont go there in a hurry as things operate at a very relaxed and leisurely pace.
If you brought the kids along for the trip , there are carnival rides adjacent to the Rathausplatz Market that would appeal to the younger kiddos, especially those in the 2- to 8-year-old range.

Where To Stay In Vienna In December
As I mentioned above, Vienna is cold. For that reason, I believe the closer you can stay to the Vienna city center, the better. There are many hotels along the Ringstrasse, including many U.S. chain hotels. It isnt that far, but its not that close in freezing cold temperatures. Vienna has a good tram system, as well as a good metro system, but the beauty of Vienna in December is being out and about. If its in the budget, I recommend finding a hotel inside the Ringstrasse.
Visit A Christmas Market
This is why most people visit in the first place. Viennas numerous Christmas markets open in mid- to late November and make you believe the worlds a better place than news broadcasts might suggest.
It feels like being wrapped in a cosy blanket before a roaring fireplace, with a steaming mug of something warm and the company of good friends.
Warning: if youre on a diet, you may want to stay away. The typical market has made culinary temptation an art form. Imagine the sugar fairy got loose, made a pact with the chocolate fairy, then abandoned all reason and accountability.
Typical sweet treats include chocolate-covered fruit, roasted & caramelised nuts, lebkuchen, innumerable pastries, and various varieties of pretzel.

Art Advent Market At Karlsplatz
The Art Advent market is most convenient to the hotels on the Ringstrasse. Its also the most kid-friendly market as it offers a large play area. It felt like the most artisan market that we visited and had the most unique gift options. Unfortunately, I dont have any of the pictures from our visit because of the great hard drive debacle, but its definitely family-friendly and worth checking out.
