Rd District Landstrasse Where To Stay In Vienna For First Time Visitors
Landstrasse is close to the city center, and is densely populated with offices and residences. This district is also home to the Belvedere Palace and its gardens. There are many cultural attractions in the Third District and Prater Park is not far away. This area offers a calmer escape from the bustling city center, with quiet coffee shops and green parks.
You wont find an abundance of nightlife here, but there are plenty of things to do in Landstrasse that make this the best location Vienna. Wien Mitte is close by and is a rail and U-Bahn station, close to the city centre. Who Should Stay In Mariahilf
If youre a first-time visitor to Vienna, consider staying along the districts eastern border, near the Museum Quarter.
Youll have quick access to the buzzing cultural quarter and be able to get to the Innere Stadt easily.
Its about a 30 minute walk or less than 10 minutes on the U-Bahn to Vienna Old Town.
Travelers who want to stay in the city center, but away from the most touristy areas, should consider staying in Mariahilf.
With a mix of mainstream culture and Viennas hip side , the area is great for any type of traveler.
If youre not keen to test out Viennas world-class transportation, you probably want to avoid this area.
While it is walkable to the historical city center , chances are youll still need to use the U-Bahn or trams a few times if you stay here.
While you may think youll save some money by staying a bit outside the Innere Stadt, think again: Mariahilf hotels are about the same in terms of price.
Thus, Mariahilf isnt a great area to look if youre on a budget in Vienna.

Landstrasse Where To Stay In Vienna On A Budget
Landstrasse is located a bit further away from the heart of the action in Vienna but is still a very interesting place to visit nonetheless. There, the architecture is much different from what can be found in the Inner Stadt. Less grand, less imperial, maybe more down to earth.
Hundertwasser, a famous Austrian master of modern art, has left his mark on the Landstrasse neighbourhood. First with the Kunst Haus Wien. Inside, you will find the only permanent exhibition of Hundertwassers art as well as temporary exhibitions with the work of other artists.
In Landstrasse, there is also the former summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, the Belvedere Palace. The ensemble actually encompasses two castles, the Lower Belvedere and the Upper Belvedere. Today, the castles host a great collection of Austrian and international art, including pieces from the Impressionists, Gustav Klimt and medieval art.
Time For A Break Fully Noted
NENI am Naschmarkt serves middle eastern cuisine that reminds of the energy and pulse of the markets of Marrakesh or the souks of Tel Aviv. Particularly their burgers and brunches are very sought after by the Viennese! Enjoy!
As you get ready to leave the Naschmarkt, do not miss the two Jugendstil masterpieces at Kettenbrückengasse 38 and 40, two very impressive apartment blocks designed by, you guessed it, Otto Wagner in 1899.

In a nutshell: The 1st district is ideal for everyone who wants to be within walking distance of the most important sights in Vienna or who doesnt have much time to explore Vienna.
The 1st district or Innere Stadt is the original Old Town of Vienna. Some of the most important sights of Vienna are located here, such as St. Stephens Cathedral or the Hofburg.

Why Youll Love Vienna 16 District Ottakring
Ottakring is a traditionally immigrant and working class area in the midst of gentrification. Whether its considered a nice place to stay in Vienna depends on who you ask.
Answers range from underestimated to horrible to hip and awesome. So take what weve written with a grain of salt.
For the average tourist, Ottakring is probably a bit too far from the center and most tourist attractions to be a convenient choice.
Indeed, its definitely not the most obvious Vienna neighborhood to stay in as a tourist.
If youre more interested in seeing Vienna like a local, and dont mind jumping on public transit, then Ottakring can be a good choice.
Ottakring stretches west from the Gurtel. Near the Gurtel, the Brunnenmarkt is a great market, and nearby Yppenplatz has plenty of food and coffee options.

Shoppers may want to consider staying in Mariahilf. Viennas 6th district is a densely populated area very close to the city centre. The Mariahilfer Strasse, Viennas most popular shopping street, runs through District 6.
This is a good neighborhood for access to public transportation also, with two subway lines and an international rail station nearby. Where To Stay In Viennas Innere Stadt Neighborhood
The Innere Stadt, central Vienna, is surrounded by the Ringstrasse and is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. It takes less than an hour to walk from one side of the 1st District to the other, but the picturesque cobblestone streets, historic buildings and the accompanying restaurants, bars, and cafes can keep you occupied for years. It is the perfect spot, if this is your first time in the city and you want to visit the main tourist sights.
Top Tip: To save some money, we highly recommend the Vienna City Pass. It gives you free entrance to many of the Viennas top attractions with Fast Pass access, so you dont waste any time waiting in line. You can also use the Hop on Hop off buses to get to the top sights of Vienna. You can read more about the pros and cons of the Vienna Pass here.
Begin your exploration at Stephansplatz, the main square. To heighten your experience, picture the city in 1683 when city walls stood in place of the Ringstrasse: They were the only thing between you and the charging armies of the Ottoman Empire during the Battle of Vienna, one of the most critical struggles in European history.
The Golden U shopping neighborhood is also found in Innere Stadt. If you continue along the Golden Us Kärntner Strasse, youll soon reach the Wieden district, which is also home to great shopping.

Safest Area To Stay In Vienna
Now that we covered the best places to stay in Vienna and areas, lets talk safety.
Overall, Vienna is relatively safe for travelers. Including solo and female travelers.
Though violent crimes and muggings are rare here, pick-pocketing and bag snatching are common in Vienna. Hence, the same as many European big cities.
As a result, just take the normal precautions against pickpockets and youll easily avoid getting robbed or scammed.
However, I cannot give a specific area that has no chances of pick-pocketing. Anywhere can be a perfect place for a thief to make his moves.
Therefore, I do recommend to be careful.
Furthermore, Ill leave you these basic tips to avoid being pick-pocketed:
Last but not least, the golden rule: Let nobody touch you!
They can only steal from you once they get near you or once they get in touch with you especially in very crowded places which they take advantage of.
Be attentive and have precautions and youll do just fine. There is no need to get paranoid. But follow my suggestions above and you will be fine.
Many many friends visited me here and stayed at all those places I recommended them. I obviously gave them my safety tips. And not a single one got robbed!

Where To Stay In Vienna Beyond Hotel Recommendations How To Spend A Day In The Hood

For us, the question of where to stay in Vienna is as much about public transport and accommodation as it is about the neighborhood itself. To ease you into the charm of Viennas 4th and 5th districts, we have assembled our suggestions in the form of a round walk around the hood, starting and ending at Karlsplatz. You will find more information about the places mentioned in this itinerary in the last section of the article! Enjoy!
To start this tour the correct way, stop by Brahmss statue in the Reselpark in front of the Karlskirche . The red building across the street is the Musikverein, home to the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, which Brahms directed himself for several years.
Trynot to get lost and its here that your walking tour will also finish at theend of the day.
And if you wonder why that guy dressed like Mozart is trying to sell you a Vivaldi concert ticket in the Karlskirche, well thats because the Venetian composer died in the Gottesacker hospital that used to be next door and was buried in the nearby cemetery. The tomb was subsequently lost, but theres a plaque to commemorate it.
