Best Family Hotels Whistler Village
This main village with its pedestrian only Village Stroll is a very popular spot to stay with the greatest concentration of hotels, restaurants and amenities.
Pros: You are within easy walking distance of lots of great restaurants, shopping, the childrens playground, the outdoor ice rink , the bike park, the skate park, the movie theatre and the gondolas to both mountains.
Cons: The only real downside to Whistler Village is that it can sometimes get a bit lively at night for families wishing to get to bed early. In recent years, I have pulled a few hotels off this list after some sleepless nights.

Where To Stay In Whistler In The Summertime

Whistler is well-known as a great year-round destination. In the winter months it is one of the world’s great ski resorts, with over 8000 acres of groomed runs and an incomparable range of off-piste runs limited only by your skill and nerve. During the winter the accommodation of choice is generally going to be either a ski-in, ski-out townhome or an apartment in the Village or within walking distance of it. A very few properties fulfill both these conditions, but most of the accommodation is in one or other category.
In the summer, however, the most desirable lodging may be elsewhere. Slopeside properties that offer ski-in, ski-out but are a good way up the mountain are fabulous during the winter but not so great in the summer except for the mountain biking fraternity for whom they may become ‘bike-in, bike-out’. As a result these condos which command a terrific premium during the winter are often available at very discounted rates in the summer. You may be able to pick up a 4-5 bedroom 2200 sq. ft townhome which commands $2000 a night at New Year for $4-500 per night. It will be beautifully furnished and have great views the only drawback is that it is a bit of a hike up the hill if you are on foot.

Preparing For Whistler Summer Activities
Whistler is located on the west coast of Canada, in the province of British Columbia. The nearest airport is Vancouver. You can drive or take a bus to arrive in Whistler. Driving takes 2 hours, and buses take 4 hours one way.

One of the popular ways to get to Whistler from Vancouver is by seaplane or floatplane. On a short flight, you get to soak in panoramic views of Stanley Park and the North Shore mountains from above. You can book a floatplane online here.

Best Place To Stay In Summer
Can someone recommend some nice places to stay in summer? I’ve never been to Whistler before. Really looking forward to exploring it. Is there a better location to stay in the summer? I’m assuming most of the trip advisor recommendations are for what’s close to the slopes. But I’m thinking in summer the location would switch to town?
Town IS on the slopes. 🙂 Whistler is a purpose built resort. Originally, access was only possible from the area now known as Creekside. When they developed Whistler Village on the other side, it was planned out from the start as a walkable ski village. Car access into the village has always been restricted to the perimeter and most of the main properties are … well if you can’t quite call them ski in/out, you can certainly wear your skis and just pole/skate to the nearest lift.
The only real difference in the summer is if you want to be closer to the lakes for swimming and water sports? Otherwise, I don’t know that I would choose anything different to what I might choose in winter.
As Vancouverite67 mentioned, Whistler Village is located at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Staying in the village also gives you easy access to the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, the Peak 2 Peak Gondola and Alpine hikes, all of which are great fun in Summer!
My Thoughts On Whistler
I absolutely love Whistler.
That could be the reason I lived there for over 18 months and now consider myself a local.
Why do I love it?
There is just SO much to do.
In fact, it was hard to fit everything I wanted to into this itinerary! If you like the outdoors, youre in for a real treat. The surrounding mountains and rainforest are stunning.
An additional treat I didnt expect is the quality food scene. The village is packed with excellent restaurants and eateries with cuisines from all over the world. There really are so many things to do in Whistler in Summer.

What Is Whistler Famous For
Well-known as one of the largest ski resorts in North America, Whistler is also famous for its beauty in the Summer.
The surrounding lakes are some of the most spectacular in the world.
The two mountains Whistler and Blackcomb are home to countless outdoor sports opportunities.
Theres also a sense of pride in hosting the Winter Olympics in 2010 There are Olympic rings in the village and at the top of the gondola .
The rings in the village are located in the aptly named Olympic Plaza, which plays host to a free gig and attracts some decent bands most weekends throughout Summer.
Finally, Whistler is home to both grizzly and black bears. If youre lucky, youll see black bears roaming the mountain whilst exploring the hiking and mountain biking trails a special and unique experience

Go On The Train Wreck Hike
The trailhead to the train wreck site is located near the Cheakamus River just south of Whistler. You can get there by car , or use public transportation bus 20 or 20x towards Cheakamus .
The Train Wreck Hike is an easy hiking trail that takes you to a Suspension Bridge over the Cheakamus River, and after 15- 20 minutes you will get to the first painted train box.
The entire route is scenic with views of the Cheakamus River, bridge, and the forest itself.

HI Whistler was built in 2010 and was at the time used as accommodation for the athletes competing in the Winter Olympics. About Visiting Whistler In Summer
Whistler is one of the best summer destinations in BC! The weather is warm averaging 20 Celsius during the day, with August being the hottest month temperatures then average 24 Celsius .
Thanks to the cool mountain air, its never too humid in Whistler! And with less than 16 days of rainfall across the 3 months of summer there really is no better season to visit this mountain village. Of course, the days are longer in the summer too, with 16 hours of daylight the sun rises at 5 am and doesnt set until 9:30 pm! This means you have a lot more daylight to explore.
Despite Whistler being a renowned ski destination, most tourists actually visit Whistler in the summer. Would you believe approximately 1.7 million tourists visit Whistler every summer?! Thats because theres a phenomenal range of activities on offer during the warmer months like mountain biking, white water rafting, and ATVing. Not forgetting that the best and most scenic hiking is on offer at this time too. Therefore, I recommend spending at least a full weekend here in the summer.

Bring some snacks and drinks, and dont forget your life jacket! While you might see some other people foolishly trying to make the same trip in an inflatable dinghy, kayaks and canoes are a better betthe water is cold, and the river is long!

Lost Lake Hiking Trails
One of our favourite things to do in Whistler in the summer is to hike the Lost Lake nature trail.
Its an easy forest trail with well marked paths, which is ideal for our young boys. Depending on where you start, the trail is about 5 kms round trip and it has a limited elevation gain. There are multiple entry points to Lost Lake Park, including the paved trail that passes alongside the Fairmont Chateau Golf Course.
We like this trail because it leads to Lost Lake beach park . This lake beach park has a large grass area with picnic tables and washroom facilities.
If you prefer to skip the hike and relax at Lost Lake Beach, there is a parking lot with limited parking. This parking lot is strictly enforced, so make sure you purchase a ticket and only park in designated spaces. Every time we visit Lost Lake Beach we see parking enforcement writing parking tickets.
Getting our toes wet at Lost Lake Beach Park in Whistler. Lost Lake is also a fun spot for paddleboarding. Heres a list of the best places to paddleboard in Whistler.
