Is Whitefish Montana Worth Visiting
While the Going-to-the-Sun Road is worth a visit to Whitefish alone, you could spend your entire trip exploring Glacier National Park and only skim the surface. How To Get To Whitefish Resort Montana
One of the best parts of skiing in Whitefish Resort is that it is so easy to fly into Glacier International Airport in Kalispell. Seriously, this might be the easiest airport experience youve ever had.

Go On An Epic Drive In Glacier National Park
Driving the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park is considered one of the top 10 national park experiences and trust me it is thrilling as the car climbs through the mountains and makes its way to the continental divide at the Logan Pass.
Glacier National Park is only 35 miles from Whitefish. We stopped at Lake McDonald before making our way up to the Logan Pass and hiked up to Hidden Lake where we saw a bear.
This year I was lucky to have gotten to 3 National Parks Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons and now Glacier National Park. Hoping my luck continues and I get to a few more National Parks next year.
Parts of the famous road remain open during spring and fall even if the alpine portions are buried in snow. This means you have the roads to yourself if you are hiking or biking. Kudos and much respect to anyone who can bike through these roads that seem to rise up to the clouds!
Eat At One Of Whitefishs Best Restaurants
Youll have a whole lot of options for a delicious dinner in Whitefish. If budget is no concern, most consider critically-acclaimed Cafe Kandahar to be the best fine dining in town. We didnt eat there , but it looks fabulous. The menu rotates frequently, and its a place where each meal is a work of art. For a less extravagant option, Tupelo Grille and Ciao Mambo are other favorites for southern and Italian cuisine.

Best Time To Visit Whitefish
Whitefish is a great place to visit during the snow season for all the winter fun. National Geographic placed it on its Top 25 Ski Town in the World and says this about Whitefish The Whitefish ski area lives up to its family-friendly billing with good first-timer terrain and an abundance of long, wide-open, roller coaster groomers where skiers and snowboarders of all abilities can get their superhero on.
Snowshoeing, sledding, cross country skiing, and a horse-driven sleigh ride are other snow activities to try when visiting Whitefish in Winter even if you dont ski.
The town looks like a winter wonderland during Christmas. The whole town gathers in Central Avenue for a torchlight parade during Christmas Eve and there is magic in the air. The town is decorated with lights and the storefronts look festive with holiday decorations.
While winter brings in the die-hard ski enthusiasts to town, there is plenty to do in Whitefish Montana during summer as well. Our family doesnt ski but we do love summer in the mountains.
If you like mountain adventures you will find lots of activities in Whitefish to keep everyone busy! During summer outdoor enthusiasts flock to the region for hiking, biking, fishing and other adventures in the area which is often called the crown of the continent.
Travel Tips From A Calgarian
Outdoor enthusiasts Chris and Julie Kohlruss and their five-year-old son son, Rylan, head down to Whitefish every chance they get. They own a second home just south of town and visit the area six to 10 times a year.
We just love the small mountain-village feel and the abundance of opportunities to be active in the outdoors, says Julie, a phys-ed instructor. Our son is a go-getter, and were game to try just about any sport or activity out there.
In summer, the couple does a lot of hiking and biking. The Lion Mountain trails are close by and were there a lot. Les Mason State Park is perfect for a lakeside picnic, Julie says.
Visitors rave about the delicious and inexpensive food in town. The Kohlruss family favourites are the Craggy Range for their amazing mac n cheese, Caseys for its fantastic rooftop patio, Ciao Mambo for quaint Italian and Sweet Peaks for their delicious ice cream, says Julie.

I Think Whitefish Probably Has Some Of The Best
I think Whitefish probably has some of the best accommodations near the park, which is what we came for. The town has all the basics, there’s not much near the park period. However, maybe due to COVID, it was REALLY hard to get a table at a restaurant. You need to book weeks ahead if you want a specific place. It’s very pretty, though. The Safeway every day looked like it had been ransacked by hordes of hikers. You need to go to Kalispell for any regular shopping, like a Target or Walmart. But then that wouldn’t be why you are in Whitefish. There is a very popular restaurant, The Last Chair, on Big Mountain – booked ahead for 2 weeks. Same with the dinner at the Whitefish Country Club.
