Where to Stay in Zion National Park

The truth is, unless you’re intent on camping in the park or able to plan incredibly early, you actually may be better off staying in one of the towns that surround the National Park. Here are the best places to stay near Zion National Park.

At the footsteps of the South Gate of Zion National Park is Springdale and would be one of my first choices if you’re looking for a place to stay by the park.

La Piazzetta Guest House

Location is unbeatable, very close to pier, beaches, Piazza Tasso and many restaurants. Valentina and Alex are very friendly and helpful. Room is very useful and beds are very comfortable. We stayed there last year and again made a reservation, we didnt think to find new place to stay this year.

Grand Hotel Aminta

This hotel is a top choice in Sorrento with incredible views such as the Bay of Sorrento and Mount Vesuvius. Live the high-life with free Wi-Fi, beach towels, deck chairs, a pool bar and live music and dancing at night. You won’t want to leave after experiencing this level of luxury during your stay.

Holiday Inn Express Springdale

Amidst the red rock cliffs, the Holiday Inn brand may not scream luxury but it is one of the most sought after properties that is more lodge than it is an inn. The property offers free wifi, high ceilings, refrigerator, tea, and coffee-making facilities. The best part is the outdoor pool, hot tub, and sun terrace.

Best Hostel In Kanab: The Cowboy Bunkhouse

The Cowboy Bunkhouse is one of the few hostels located close to Zion and its our favourite place to stay in Kanab. This Western hostel has rustic bunk beds, a relaxing parlour, and a fully equipped kitchen. Its also home to the Sarsparilla Saloon, where guests can enjoy a drink and some piano tunes to relax.

How To Book Zion Lodge

You can only book Zion Lodge via the official Xanterra website which you can find here.

Unless you are booking very early, chances are you will not find a room available but dont despair just yet!

Cancellations are frequent and you may get a spot: make sure you check often!

A cancellation is just what we got: I had booked a backup option in Springdale on and kept checking the zion Lodge website.

When a room became available, I booked it, canceled the other one and I was done, not a cent lost!

Our stay in Zion Lodge was the highlight of our Utah trip so I highly recommend this approach!

Need to know: once your booking is confirmed and paid, zion lodge will send you a driving permit by post. Keep this permit and carry it with you! This is what will allow you to drive to the Lodge, which is in an area of the park closed to normal traffic. Please note that the driving permit it so reaches the lodge only and does not allow you freely drive in the park.

Zion National Park is one of the most beautiful and most visited National Parks in the US and this has one important consequence for the eager visitor: accommodation options sell out fast!

As I discovered when we planned our very own trip to Zion, lodging options in Zion National Park are sold out as early as 6 months in advance and nearby options are very much the same and with prices to match

However, the good news is that there are plenty of places to stay near Zion National Park and if you book early or are willing to stay a little farther away, you dont need to break the bank.

This is my handpicked selection of the best places to stay in and near Zion National Park, based on my own travel and travel research.

Staying In Mt Carmel Junction Or Kanab

On the eastern side of Zion National Park, youll find the small town of Mt Carmel Junction. There isnt much there except for some small hotels, a ranch and some outfitters for tourism. This is an ideal location if you want to have one home base but experience both Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. We did our road trip of Utah National Parks by staying in two different locations, but this base is an option too.

Options in Mt Carmel Junction include the Best Western East Zion Thunderbird Hotel, the Zion Mountain Ranch, and a few others. Like I said, its not a huge town. If you want more options you can head south a bit to Kanab. This is also going to put you into the middle of some of the coolest sandstone formations in Utah. The town is bigger and has more national brand options . Youll also find a much more of a town for exploring and lots of tourist options beyond Zion National Park.

Where To Stay Inside Zion National Park

We love staying inside national parks and generally think its a better experience overall. However, were usually up for camping. Staying in hotels and lodges inside the park is going to be more expensive than staying just outside the park, and the facilities are usually going to be a little rundown because theyre constantly at full capacity.

Spending the night inside the park is super convenient if you want to wake up early and beat the crowds to the shuttle or trails, particularly in Zion.

If you stay at the Zion Lodge, youll bypass the long shuttle lines altogether with your own special stop. If you stay at the campground, youll be able to walk to the shuttle pickup, which means you wont have to deal with parking at the Visitor Center .

Unfortunately, options to stay inside the park are limited to one lodge and two campgrounds.

The Zion Lodge: The Only Hotel in the Park

As the only in-park hotel accommodation, the historic Zion Lodge is one of the best places to stay at Zion National Park. You really cant get any more central to the numerous sights and trailheads , which are literally right outside your front door.

Besides having spectacular views of the 2,000-foot canyons from your room or cabin, the lodge also offers plenty of activities to keep you occupied. You can rent bikes, go on a horseback riding tour, or walk a few steps to catch the Zion Canyon shuttle for a scenic tour of the park.
